Welcome to Republic City!
It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.
The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."
Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.
Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.
[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

It's only the intro log and they're already trying to ruin her image! This is a PR nightmare!
Asami needed an excuse to stretch her legs. She could be found anywhere around the town, hanging posters that advertised the upcoming first annual Future Industries Motor Showcase, to be held at Future Industries track next weekend. Fun for the whole family! Professional and amateur racing, tech demos, refreshments, and more! You might have heard an ad over the radio, too.
Asami tacked yet another flier to a telephone pole, contemplating stopping somewhere for lunch before making her way back to the office.
[b]
In light of the sudden surge of refugees showing up throughout the city, (Leave it to the Spirit World, UGH.) Asami had a small team of workers assembling care packages. Blankets, canteens, dry snacks, maps, and a few yuans to be handed out to those who had been displaced. She set up shop with the help of a few cops out in front of the Future Industries factory.
If you were polite enough, she may even offer you a job.
A - Apologies for spaceboy in advance.
omg
Instead, like the good little public figure she
tried to bewas, she raised her eyebrow in a confused frown."Sorry?" As if she didn't understand.

One of them just so happened to need help from a few police, and he was in the middle of helping finishing up just outside the factory when he saw her.
"Asami!" He gave a small motion to the other cops to let them know he was taking a quick break and walked over to her. "Got a minute?"
no guarantees, officer.
"Sure, Mako. What's up?" It was so much easier to talk to him, these days. About time.

Soooo what's a Motor Showcase?

You know the vehicles that are going around on the streets? Like carriages that go without being drawn? Those are run by motors. It's pretty recent that the general public started owning them, though.

[Wan said as he attempted to gather up more than one care package and put them in the saddlebags of the catdeer he'd ridden up to the factory on. He was dressed in 'modern' clothes and other than the ready-for-travel catdeer, looked pretty much like he belonged in the city. And apparently was greedy enough to try and take more than one care package with him.]

[Asami pursed her lips, though, when Wan started loading up multiple packages.]
But... it's one per person. We don't know how many more refugees are going to show up.

George feels like it's an attack to his dignity to have to accept this help, but he knows that realistically, it's a bad idea to pass up on this chance. After he reluctantly got himself some yuan, a map and a bit of food from her workers, he approaches Asami herself. ]
That is some helpful business you set up here. Do refugee waves like this happen often around Republic City?
[ Even though he's only learned the name of the place like half an hour ago, he tries to throw it around as much as possible just to seem as if he was more integrated in this world than he is. ]

[Meaning people don't just pop out of nowhere. Republic City had more than its share of refugees, but none who had appeared her so suddenly.]
People are pouring in from the Earth Kingdom territories after the fall of the queen, but we've never had people just appearing out of nowhere.
[Asami speaks as she folds blankets for the care packages.]

A is for not Bolin
In short, things are pretty boring. Which is why, when Bolin finds Asami posting fliers all over the place—almost assuredly about that racing event she's hosting, he's eager to come over and see what she's up to.
"Asami, hello!" he calls out rather jovially. "I heard about your racing event, but I would've figured you'd have delegated putting up fliers to someone else."

It was only natural that the woman putting up the flyers caught her eye. She approached the woman, reading the flyer over her head as she tacked it the pole. ] Need a hand?

If... you want, sure.
[Finally someone who doesn't lead off with a comment of surprise in seeing her out here doing grunt work. She can walk around and hang fliers! Really!]

Like the fact that he's in an unfamiliar city with no food and no place to sleep. If it was just the latter, he could deal with it. Maybe find a bush in a park to curl up underneath. He might not like sleeping on the ground out in the open, but it wouldn't be the first time for him. No, it's the lack of food that'll be a real problem. None of the shops want to take his money, insisting it's not real.
Running into Asami is a godsend.
"Thank you so much," he says as he accepts a package. The gratitude on his face is sincere and heartfelt. "Are you sure there isn't something I can do to pay you back?" Because even though he knows he needs the charity, it would still sit better with him if he could earn it somehow.

B!
But he couldn't just start their conversation immediately gushing about this place. As awe-inspiring as it was, the fact that the line was so long was harrowing. These people were kind enough to donate their resources, but would there really be enough for everyone? This city was huge and it reminded him of Ba Sing Se. Satoru knew far too well what happened to the less fortunate in bigger cities and he'd already passed by a few people who seemed to be homeless.
When he finally reached the front of the line and bowed his head almost apologetically toward Asami. He knew his face was still dirty and his clothes needed a good wash; and he hoped that the fused Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation insignia on his apron wouldn't earn him an instant 'no' for his question. After a moment, he lifted his bowed head and cleared his throat.
"Is there anything I can do to help?"

Not to mention he hasn't gotten any delivery requests of his own today either thanks to all the hubbub. Maybe if he offers to help, Future Industries will at least pay for fuel. Hey, a guy's still gotta make a living.
He parks his truck outside the makeshift aid station at the factory and is surprised to find Asami Sato herself manning (womanning?) the table. Maybe the rumors about her being a hands-on CEO aren't rumors.
Taking a deep breath to pluck up his courage (it's not every day you meet someone who has more money than you've ever seen, after all), Albert steps over to the table. "Um, excuse me, Miss Sato?"
