[Dwarven Vow number ten: Play hard, play often!

That's the happy thought running through Lloyd's head as the teen makes his way off the boat and onto Air Temple Island. Okay, so maybe training isn't exactly playing, but it's still his day off from work and it's something different from his everyday routine. Opal might be here, too, or Jinora, or Aang. Meeting up with someone he knows is always an improvement on any day.

On the other hand, he hasn't really had a chance to meet many of the other airbenders here. Despite his intentions, it's easy getting sidetracked - by work, by watching pro-bending matches, by...

...pie?

Wow, yes, that's pie he smells. It doesn't take long to spot the source, either: two pies cooling on the sill of an open window he just passed. Man, they smell good.

People on the island might run into Lloyd a few places: an open area where he's practicing his airbending, or maybe when he knocks on the Air Temple's door, or possibly spotting him hovering around those pies, clearly struggling to resist the temptation to snitch a fingerful of the whipped stuff on top.]

With all the excitement going on with the penguin races, the spirits came to a conclusion that the citizens and the people they brought to this city just weren't doing their best job to take care of the problem that they were sensing. Maybe they didn't bring the right people, or maybe they just needed more protection. Things seemed far too quiet and it just didn't sit well with them. So, some of the stronger spirits who preferred to watch instead of interact with humans decided to combine their powers together to summon more people from all over the worlds.

Welcome to the Fourth Wall Event of Cyclicality.

The spirits are bringing in all sorts of people for three weeks to try and gain more help and more alliances to help protect Republic City from anything that may wish to harm it. Any characters can come into the game with their powers to try and help out Republic City or just make things even more chaotic for the citizens. Your characters can come in as their original self, or you can AU them into the setting as well.

At the end of the event the new characters that were pulled into Republic City will be sent back to their own homes, unless you wish to app the character you brought in. You will be able to app them and let them keep their memories of the event. That goes for the characters already in the game as well. However, any canon powers will be lost as usual upon apping unless they're a canon bender or apped as AU. An overflow post will be posted around this time next week depending on if there are a lot of people tagging/commenting, so hop to it, everyone!

Some rules to follow:

1. If you’re a player in the game and interested in participating in the event, use the [4th wall] tag. This will let everyone know if you want to participate. You can also tag posts here.

2. If you’re not in the game, you can post a starter post here or tag into someone else’s post who has the [4th wall tag].

3. As always, remember to be friendly! And, if you have any questions, feel free to shoot us a PM.

Things are getting bad, and fast. Yuri had been kicked out of his apartment upon being dubbed a foreigner. He hasn't been here for a year, in fact, he moved here close to the time people from other worlds showed up, Being the poor citizen he is, Yuri can't even prove he was a resident of Ba Sing Se beforehand either. Not that it would really matter if he could. Its not looking good for him, that's for sure. Homeless and unable to buy most things that he needs, even though he has plenty of money, he's got no choice but to spend most of his time at work. Which means Varrick's boat. He's not exactly happy about it, but there could be worse things.

Having heard about the gold appearing at city hall, Yuri's curiosity drove him to take a look. What he saw disgusted him. That evening the gold appeared as people said it did, and he just stands by and watches as people scramble for it. He doesn't need the stuff, and even if he did, what good would it be? Being labeled a foreigner, the gold would just give him more trouble than it was worth. Thus he just leans against the wall of a building and watches, Repede sitting next to him and huffing his disapproval as people scramble for the glittering stuff. And they say dogs are animals. Though the mysterious word that's appeared with the gold hasn't gone unnoticed. Though all he can do is speculate about it.

"Tch." Eventually Yuri gets tired of watching this and turns to go, but then something else catches his eye as it appears nearby. What appears to be a large, glittering gem. It's huge actually, for a jewel anyway. The crystal is several inches long and wide enough to be held with two hands. It's color is a light blue. Yuri stares at it for several moments. He feels like he's seen it before. But that's crazy... right? But the nagging feeling won't leave him alone. He moves towards it, but someone else swoops in and snatches it.

"Hey!" Yuri shouts at the man as he tries to flee with the stone. Repede leaps into action, putting himself in the man's path and growls menacingly. This gets the looter to pause, staring nervously at the dog. Repede barks and snaps his jaws, causing the man to back up into Yuri who looks down at him imposingly. The small man squeaks and drops the stone. "Don't hurt me!" And with that, he runs off. ... Well. That wasn't too hard. Stooping down, Yuri picks up the crystal and looks it over.

Later, Yuri takes the crystal back to Varrick's boat. He's already had several people try to snatch it from him. It would be safer to keep it there.

((OOC: Feel free to approach or run into Yuri at any point here! Or even on his way back to Varrick's boat.))

While camping considerably close to City Hall to make sure they were around for all that gold snatching, Nabooru and her girls have started a contained campfire to ward off against the cold. They're mostly all sitting around chatting amongst themselves, laughing more often than not. One of them probably waves to you, beckoning you over with a sweet smile. Why not share the warmth? Nabooru herself seems to be dealing with another girl who is handing her a new winter cloak with their recognizable patterns down the back. For those that have ever traveled by desert or have come from the Earth Kingdom, they might be somewhat recognizable as the symbols of a well known band of thieves.

Getting close enough, Nabooru herself will take notice. "Go on and sit. The fire's free. The food isn't." They seemed to be cooking something that smelled decently pleasant.

[2]
On one of the nights the gold starts appearing at City Hall, Nabooru is ready to fly into action. With the ease of her thieving skills, she will manage to gather quite more than her fair share. She doesn't fight fair, either, using her bending abilities like nobody's business. If shifting a bunch of earth underneath someone to get an advantage is necessary, she will do it. And when she's settled on that her pockets are just full enough, she'll be taking off! Watching her back to make sure no one is following her, however, doesn't leave her eyes set so forward. A rookie mistake. Honestly, she's better than that. But eventually that is bound to get her in trouble, running right into another body, sending the gold filling her pockets clattering with a jaunty jingle straight to the ground. "Hey!" Because clearly, that was your fault, wasn't it?

[3]
The only thing Nabooru likes better than stealing is reading. She loves getting lost in fantasy worlds like no other. And so she's taken to visiting one of the ritzier book shops in the better part of town. Their books didn't have highlights and tons of earmarks or cracked spines. She wanted her books to be hers ... regardless of if they were cheesy romance novels or not. But as she's never gotten herself truly documented since skipping from the desert, on this particular trip she gets thrown out- but not before making a ton of noise. No one can deny her her books! ....but that's exactly what's happening.

((First and second are pretty self explanatory (though for the first if you want to recognize the Gerudo as the thieving band of possible murderers who once roamed the deserts outside the Earth Kingdom that's fine too!), the third you can catch her in the middle of fighting with the clerk about how ridiculous the ID thing is or right after she gets thrown out of the store and the doors shut in her face. Anything goes! All are welcome.))

[Connor arrived in Republic City a day ago, so while he isn't as clueless as he was when he first arrived, he's still at something of a loss. Things are so different in this time: the satomobiles and airships still make him jumpy, and the sheer amount of people in the city are overwhelming. So far Varrick had shown him kindness by helping him, but Connor didn't want to rely on a fellow tribesman's generosity for too long, no matter how wealthy they happened to be.

So, even though he's still very much unfamiliar with the city, he's looking for a job when construction listings advertised catch his eye in a window.]

"Must be good at working with heights"... [He turns and cranes his head at the dizzyingly high skyscrapers, considering. Even with his climbing abilities, these were higher than anything he'd ever scaled.] Perhaps it could be a worthwhile challenge.

I;
What happened to Republic City? The last thing Iroh remembers was hearing that Amon had been unbasked as a bender and had disappeared, then he had suddenly woken up in a very strange place (the Spirit World, he's almost positive it was the Spirit World - though how did he manage to get there?) and found his way here, back to Republic City. The only problem was that Republic City had changed immensely overnight - the vines everywhere are the first indication, but he's seen spirits milling around and the general feeling of the city is off somehow, though Iroh hasn't been able to pinpoint exactly why.

He was making his way toward City Hall to try to get some idea of what was going on, but Iroh has stopped to pick up a newspaper and is currently reading it, looking troubled.

The first section is troubling, but more confusing than anything else. It's the section regarding his grandfather that's causing his eyebrows to knit as he scans it. "There is supposedly a time-displaced younger Lord Zuko now installed as interim Fire Lord following Fire Lord Izumi's disappearance. Whether or not the 'young' Zuko is actually Lord Zuko's past self or a very convincing child actor, this means that Lord Zuko now has direct control of two nations. Is it possible our 'interim' President plans on having his rule be not so temporary? It is awfully convenient that his own daughter has disappeared in the same manner of President Raiko - and as we've now learned, the other world leaders of the nations and prominent cities within them - and this has allowed him to not only be voted in as the interim President of the United Republic, but to set a hand-picked puppet where his daughter used to sit."

"President Raiko...?" The name doesn't sound familiar. Since when did Republic City have a president, and why would his grandfather take over if said president had disappeared? What about Fire Lord Izumi? What had happened to her? What's going on here?

Iroh can be found puzzling over the newspaper on the side of the street. He's wearing the usual United Forces uniform (this one isn't missing a sleeve, thankfully). He looks more concerned than confused and he won't be looking up from that paper unless he's directly addressed.

II;
Once he's done with the newspaper, Iroh decides that the best thing to do is continue to City Hall. If his grandfather really is in charge right now, he can surely answer Iroh's questions. If Lord Zuko isn't in charge (or isn't in), he can at least find a phone to get in contact with the United Forces to figure out what happened.

Iroh stops dead in the street when City Hall comes into view. It certainly isn't the normal City Hall and the vines growing from it are quite impressive. Hopefully the place is still in good shape inside, because the last thing he wants is to find out that this isn't where he needs to be.

It had been two weeks since Lord Zuko first travelled to the Fire Nation with the others. He returned a week ago, deciding he had imparted as much information as he could give his younger self about the modern Fire Nation's state of affairs, and he had taken on new advisors that would assist the interrim Fire Lord in getting his footing. Uncle Iroh was there to support the younger Zuko, too, he'd left Druk behind to protect the palace from any would-be opportunists, and even Avatar Wan had offered his help joining the search parties in finding Izumi.

In short, Lord Zuko had done everything he felt he could at this time to keep the Fire Nation stable, and his duties to Republic City beckoned again, forcing him to return. The unrest in the city of late had to be addressed. Early this particular morning, however, while he was preparing for a meeting at City Hall, Zuko did not expect a page to rush in with a message there was a dragon outside the building. He hurried outside, and sure enough, there was Druk, waiting patiently.

"Druk? I asked you to stay in the Fire Nation, old friend." Zuko approached his dragon companion, resting a hand on his broad muzzle. "Why did you come back?"

Druk simply stared at him and gave a low rumble. His appearance here worried Zuko. If something had happened in the Fire Nation that would make Druk seek him out, or if there was something wrong with the portal, he needed to investigate right away.

[ooc: feel free to use this as a catchall if you want to thread out your character being dragged back from the Fire Nation after the two-week mark! THANKS SPIRIT WORLD.]

What: See the Title
Where: Fire Nation!
When: Any time you're in the Fire Nation during November (following the portal opening)

The Portal between Air Temple Island and the Fire Nation comes out directly into the Royal Plaza. Security has been set up around the portal, metal walls several feet out with a few windows (so the military could make sure those traveling between the locations were not threats) blocked easy access to the rest of the Plaza. Those people who didn't have what was considered a good reason to visit the Palace were allowed to visit the city located outside the Caldera, while actual guests of the Royal family were escorted to pre-prepared rooms or small villas on the palace grounds.

Things would likely change in the future, but for the first couple weeks following the opening of the portal, if you came through the portal, you probably had a better reason for being there than 'it seemed like fun'.

Unless your name was Kiyi or Wan or Toph or Aang or- You know what? 'it seemed like fun' was probably a perfectly fine reason.

ooc: This is a catch all for anyone who wants to do general threads in the Fire Nation. Tag in, tag around, have fun.

13 November 2014 @ 06:11 pm
A couple days after the portal had appeared, there was a gathering of people on Air Temple Island, right in front of it. Word had quickly spread and reached the ears of certain people that this was particularly important to. Unfortunately, action wasn't immediately taken due to the fact that the younger version of Zuko had been injured during the earthquake. However, after having his wounds attended to, he was ready to go.

The plan was to get the younger Zuko to the palace, confirm his identity, and then have him settle in as the ruler of the Fire Nation. Which would hopefully prevent or stop any further chaos from breaking out there. Zuko's friends, especially those that had been living with him in the wilds, had all been invited to come with him. Once the palace staff was replaced, anyone staying there would be provided with what they needed.

Zuko himself looked a little worse for wear as he waited for everyone to get organized, before making the trip through the portal. Leaning on one crutch, he looked up at the fiery red portal. Amazed that such a thing could even exist. A lot of strange things were happening in their world, and he could only hope that they would get some answers eventually. Not to mention find the people that were missing. People like his future daughter and grandson.

[Spirit Wilds - Backdated to the 7th]

[Of all the things that Duo had figured he'd need to keep around his little camp while he slept, a water source hadn't really figured into it. There was drinkable water in the area and hew as capable of walking. But maybe he'd regret that soon.

The former pilot startled awake somewhat late in the morning (hey, he was going to sleep in when he had the chance), looking around the area quickly for the threat. There wasn't one of course, and he flopped back down with a grumble about stupid nightmares. That was when the acrid scent of smoke started to tickle his sense of smell and he made a face. What was burning?

It took him a moment to realize and he jerked upright, shoving the blanket off of him as it began to smolder.]

Shit!

[By the Water - 7th to 11th]

[Great, he was a walking fire hazard. Well, maybe he was most of the time if you asked Wufei, but that was beside the point. He normally needed tools to start fires! He didn't do it by staring at stuff too long or doing something silly like sneezing. But that was why he was standing in the shallows of the water, poking at a little flame in his hand. Every so often it flared up and he quickly shoved his hands down into the water to put it out.]

Damn. Why doesn't this come with instructions?

[About town 11th to 14th]

[It'd taken some good practice and a new habit of keeping a bucket of water by his bed at all times, but Duo had gotten this freaky sudden influx of fiery super power at least somewhat under control. Thankfully without burning his hair off! Though his sleeves had suffered a little damage around the cuffs but he could live with that.

But that was the only reason he risked going into the library, hoping to find something to help figure this out. Something with pictures though, because Duo was still working on that reading bit. Of course, that didn't mean he didn't still have a big bottle of water in his bag for easy access. Just in case.]

If you could go back in time forty-five some odd years ago, and ask a teenage Bumi what the worst possible outcome of his life could be, he'd tell you:

Trapped at an Air Temple, pretending to be an airbender.

Bumi thinks a lot about this now, as he holds down Air Temple Island as if it were a fort.
With Tenzin and Pema no where to be found, and Jinora and Korra off to a Spirit Portal, Bumi is the highest ranking officer on deck, as horrifying for all involved as that is.

The spirits, it seems, are not without a sense of humor.

1) The Radio Room
With the Barrier down communications that were once off-line are now once again operational, and Bumi spends a few hours here several times a day. Information pours in from the Air Temples and he's been trying to reach the Water Tribes in an effort to find his brother and sister.

Looking to find family, or possibly a crash course in Morse Code? Then this is a good place for you.

2) The kitchen
People need to eat, and Bumi is more than skilled at making the most of limited provisions.
The menu is Hot and A Lot. The ingredients are both vegetarian and...less so.
(Don't worry, he's using separate cooking implements for the meat goods.

3) The meditation pavilion
He's never really been all that fantastic at meditation, or at least the kind of it that involves sitting still and keeping his mind clear, but at this point even Bumi is willing to try just about anything.

4) About town
Times are getting tougher, but there's still a lot to trade and be traded for, and so Bumi finds himself on various logistical missions getting for the Island things that it cannot produce for itself.

5) Other
Create your own, for hours of fun!

11 November 2014 @ 11:24 am
[Open: November 7-10]

Today seems to start off as any normal day. Aang wakes up, talks up a number of friends and acolytes and does his morning meditation. He even makes a flawless run through the air gates, without having practiced any airbending yet for the day.

But then, he decides to glide over towards the caves where the sky bison stay. One second, he's standing atop a tree, with his trusty glider in hand; the next, he's sprawled down on the ground, clutching his ankle in pain.

The truth becomes apparent soon enough; somehow, he can't bend anymore. At all. It leaves an empty feeling inside of him, along with a number of worries and fears. What if it doesn't come back? What if he can't be the Avatar anymore... or even just an airbender?

Throughout the first day, he is confined to Air Temple Island, and he uses his staff as a walking stick to get around while his ankle is sprained. On the later days, he can also be found in Republic City. He takes a few trips into town on Appa just to check in on others and see if any other odd happenings have been going on.

[Semi-Closed to Opal / Backdated to the evening of the 7th]

[OOC: Feel free to catch Bolin at Air Temple Island if you want. But the conversation with Opal itself is certainly closed!]

[Bolin had known that Opal had been worried about Zaofu for a while now. What with the Earth Kingdom in abject chaos and her not knowing what had happened to the rest of her family, it wasn't any surprise. And try as Bolin could, there was no way that even he could remove that worry from her, even if he was doing his best to keep her calm and otherwise happy in the interim. Nonetheless, when word came that the barrier had finally peeled back and vanished, Bolin knew that Opal would already be making plans to head out.

[And so he's off to Air Temple Island to go visit her. Tenzin isn't around and neither is Meelo to provide any sort of real trouble with him visiting, but nonetheless Bolin still sneaks through the hallways... you know, just in case they've appointed someone else. After all, he didn't want a stern lecture today, not when he might not see Opal for a few weeks. But nonetheless, he makes his way to Opal's room and knocks.]

Opal? You there?

[Closed to Wan / Backdated to a few days after the Fire Ferrets tryouts]

[Bolin had been dreading the day of going off and meeting up with his future teammates, though mainly because he knew that, once he got some yeses, that would eventually mean that he would have to tell a lot of other people no. But at least the easy part was first, right? And that meant finding all of the people that had done miraculously at the event. And first, he was going to find "Long," a.k.a. Wan, who he certainly had a personal bias for... and had done reasonably well at the tryouts.]

Heya... "Long," [Bolin says with a rather knowing look. What can he say; he really likes these codenames!] So... uh... about the tryouts?

[Closed to Yang and Katara / Backdated to shortly after the above]

[Well, after getting rejected by Wan after finding his own plans to create a new team—won't that be fun??—Bolin goes off to plan B.  He's seeking out Yang and "June" out in hopes of recruiting them to the team.  Of course, he at least got how to contact them, so he'll be making personal calls upon them before posting up the list.  So off across Republic City he goes to hunt down the hopeful recruits to the newly reformed Fire Ferrets!  He'll step up to the door where they're both living and give a knock.]

Helloooooooo?  Anybody home?

[A: Pro-bending Arena / OPEN]

[Bolin has finally posted the results from the Fire Ferrets tryouts.  There are two names scrawled on it.  Yang's name is clearly on the list, and the waterbender is probably someone no one has heard before, whether it be "June" or someone else, depending upon how the former felt about it.  Nonetheless, someone will likely catch him putting the results up.  Someone will likely hunt down Bolin and ask if that meant that they weren't on the team, and Bolin would be dreading that conversation.  Or someone else might catch him practicing and want to have a serious talk with him.]

[B: Volunteering / OPEN]

[Asami talked to him about it much earlier when all these strange people started appearing in Republic City, along with the Spirit Barrier, and something really connected with Bolin.  He had a chance to offer something back to Republic City.  He could really make a difference and make some in-roads here.  That really spoke to him, especially after all these trips Bolin has taken with Korra in order to change the world and defeat all these horrible bad guys.  So Bolin will be volunteering and helping the poor; after all, he knows exactly how that lifestyle was.]

[C: Make up your own / OPEN]

[OOC:  Seriously, Bolin could practically be anywhere.  If you've got a different idea in mind, let me know!]
