Things are getting bad, and fast. Yuri had been kicked out of his apartment upon being dubbed a foreigner. He hasn't been here for a year, in fact, he moved here close to the time people from other worlds showed up, Being the poor citizen he is, Yuri can't even prove he was a resident of Ba Sing Se beforehand either. Not that it would really matter if he could. Its not looking good for him, that's for sure. Homeless and unable to buy most things that he needs, even though he has plenty of money, he's got no choice but to spend most of his time at work. Which means Varrick's boat. He's not exactly happy about it, but there could be worse things.
Having heard about the gold appearing at city hall, Yuri's curiosity drove him to take a look. What he saw disgusted him. That evening the gold appeared as people said it did, and he just stands by and watches as people scramble for it. He doesn't need the stuff, and even if he did, what good would it be? Being labeled a foreigner, the gold would just give him more trouble than it was worth. Thus he just leans against the wall of a building and watches, Repede sitting next to him and huffing his disapproval as people scramble for the glittering stuff. And they say dogs are animals. Though the mysterious word that's appeared with the gold hasn't gone unnoticed. Though all he can do is speculate about it.
"Tch." Eventually Yuri gets tired of watching this and turns to go, but then something else catches his eye as it appears nearby. What appears to be a large, glittering gem. It's huge actually, for a jewel anyway. The crystal is several inches long and wide enough to be held with two hands. It's color is a light blue. Yuri stares at it for several moments. He feels like he's seen it before. But that's crazy... right? But the nagging feeling won't leave him alone. He moves towards it, but someone else swoops in and snatches it.
"Hey!" Yuri shouts at the man as he tries to flee with the stone. Repede leaps into action, putting himself in the man's path and growls menacingly. This gets the looter to pause, staring nervously at the dog. Repede barks and snaps his jaws, causing the man to back up into Yuri who looks down at him imposingly. The small man squeaks and drops the stone. "Don't hurt me!" And with that, he runs off. ... Well. That wasn't too hard. Stooping down, Yuri picks up the crystal and looks it over.
Later, Yuri takes the crystal back to Varrick's boat. He's already had several people try to snatch it from him. It would be safer to keep it there.
((OOC: Feel free to approach or run into Yuri at any point here! Or even on his way back to Varrick's boat.))

Varrick's boat party time
Such a hard life.
Which is why he finds a particular janitor's closet and happens to literally trip over a certain off-duty security guard. What even.]

Repede was resting next to him, and quickly looks up, but doesn't get a chance to warn his partner in time before Varrick trips over him. Fortunately the dog did manage to get out of the way.
Yuri however, is now suddenly awake. His eyes flying open and looking fairly startled.]
Whoa!
no subject
Once he's righted, Varrick squints forward in the darkness.]
...Yuri? What the spirits are you doing in my closet?!
no subject
[Now how to explain this while trying to save some face?]
Taking a nap.

[...unless...]
Yuri, are you homeless and sleeping secretly in my closets this whole time?
no subject
"Not the whole time. I was kicked out of my apartment a couple days ago."
Might as well come clean too.
AND A MILLION YEARS LATER sorry I got christmas-ed
"You have keys to this whole boat, why didn't you just hide in one of the hundred or so empty crew quarters around here?!"

[Wait what? Yuri will stare at Varrick for a moment.]

And then I just realized I was switching proses. Oops. Sorry.

So for now she was left to wander, admiring and inspecting the odd trinkets and trophies the crazy businessman had collected. Unfortunately, though she had visited many times before, she wasn't one to keep up with the layout of homes other than her own... and had gotten herself lost amidst the odd rooms.
When she stumbled across the familiar bodyguard, she paused, then sighed in slight frustration before shaking her head and giving him an apologetic and somewhat weary smile. "Sorry... Didn't mean to barge in..."

"Yo."
He then gave an indifferent roll of his shoulders.
"No harm done."

"I don't know what it is, to be honest. I found it where all that gold is showing up."
Actually he really wishes he knew what it was. It feels familiar but he just can't put his finger on it.
no subject
A hopeful smile and a small shrug. "It's pretty."
no subject
He's actually pretty distracted as he tries to put where he's seen this crystal before, but he just can't think of a time he's ever seen it. So then why is it so familiar?
no subject
His distraction was curious, and she raised a brow before inspecting the gem herself. She wasn't sure what it was, and she knew her jewels. So instead, she opted for casual conversation, instead of wasting their time on guesses with no leads. People were more important anyway.
"How have you been?" she asked, looking him over. He looked kind of more tired than she thought she had seen him before, and knowing how things in the city had been going for a lot of people, she had to ask.
no subject
"Can't complain."
Well, he could actually, but he just chooses not too.
"What about you? How's high society?"

Uh, nice doggie. Please don't eat me. I really don't taste very good. And I don't have all that much money either; I'm really poor to be honest!
no subject
Yeah, you definitely wouldn't taste good.

[Bolin relaxes visibly as his knees bend a little bit and his torso slides down the wall before finally standing up.]
I mean, I think the last thing anyone would want to be tonight is dog food. Though it seems that that's what half everyone fighting over the gold seems to want others to be. Geez.
no subject
Yeah, I don't think you even qualify for dog food.
[He's teasing, but then Yuri's attention goes back to the crowd that's gathered around the appearing gold.]
Tell me about it.
no subject
[But tell him about it? Well, you asked.]
What I don't understand is how all these people can be hoarding all of this gold for themselves yet still be so sceptical about all these newcomers that have come here. I mean, I really don't understand all that spirity stuff well, y'know, since that's mainly the Avatar's job and all, but even I can see that these things are kind of connected. I mean, the spooky message in the newspaper has to be spirits. People coming here from other worlds has to be spirit stuff. Hello! Earth to Republic City!
no subject
Hey, I can't claim to know anything about spirits. Like you said, that's Avatar stuff. I just stay out of their way.
