Things are getting bad, and fast. Yuri had been kicked out of his apartment upon being dubbed a foreigner. He hasn't been here for a year, in fact, he moved here close to the time people from other worlds showed up, Being the poor citizen he is, Yuri can't even prove he was a resident of Ba Sing Se beforehand either. Not that it would really matter if he could. Its not looking good for him, that's for sure. Homeless and unable to buy most things that he needs, even though he has plenty of money, he's got no choice but to spend most of his time at work. Which means Varrick's boat. He's not exactly happy about it, but there could be worse things.
Having heard about the gold appearing at city hall, Yuri's curiosity drove him to take a look. What he saw disgusted him. That evening the gold appeared as people said it did, and he just stands by and watches as people scramble for it. He doesn't need the stuff, and even if he did, what good would it be? Being labeled a foreigner, the gold would just give him more trouble than it was worth. Thus he just leans against the wall of a building and watches, Repede sitting next to him and huffing his disapproval as people scramble for the glittering stuff. And they say dogs are animals. Though the mysterious word that's appeared with the gold hasn't gone unnoticed. Though all he can do is speculate about it.
"Tch." Eventually Yuri gets tired of watching this and turns to go, but then something else catches his eye as it appears nearby. What appears to be a large, glittering gem. It's huge actually, for a jewel anyway. The crystal is several inches long and wide enough to be held with two hands. It's color is a light blue. Yuri stares at it for several moments. He feels like he's seen it before. But that's crazy... right? But the nagging feeling won't leave him alone. He moves towards it, but someone else swoops in and snatches it.
"Hey!" Yuri shouts at the man as he tries to flee with the stone. Repede leaps into action, putting himself in the man's path and growls menacingly. This gets the looter to pause, staring nervously at the dog. Repede barks and snaps his jaws, causing the man to back up into Yuri who looks down at him imposingly. The small man squeaks and drops the stone. "Don't hurt me!" And with that, he runs off. ... Well. That wasn't too hard. Stooping down, Yuri picks up the crystal and looks it over.
Later, Yuri takes the crystal back to Varrick's boat. He's already had several people try to snatch it from him. It would be safer to keep it there.
((OOC: Feel free to approach or run into Yuri at any point here! Or even on his way back to Varrick's boat.))

Uh, nice doggie. Please don't eat me. I really don't taste very good. And I don't have all that much money either; I'm really poor to be honest!
no subject
Yeah, you definitely wouldn't taste good.

[Bolin relaxes visibly as his knees bend a little bit and his torso slides down the wall before finally standing up.]
I mean, I think the last thing anyone would want to be tonight is dog food. Though it seems that that's what half everyone fighting over the gold seems to want others to be. Geez.
no subject
Yeah, I don't think you even qualify for dog food.
[He's teasing, but then Yuri's attention goes back to the crowd that's gathered around the appearing gold.]
Tell me about it.
no subject
[But tell him about it? Well, you asked.]
What I don't understand is how all these people can be hoarding all of this gold for themselves yet still be so sceptical about all these newcomers that have come here. I mean, I really don't understand all that spirity stuff well, y'know, since that's mainly the Avatar's job and all, but even I can see that these things are kind of connected. I mean, the spooky message in the newspaper has to be spirits. People coming here from other worlds has to be spirit stuff. Hello! Earth to Republic City!
no subject
Hey, I can't claim to know anything about spirits. Like you said, that's Avatar stuff. I just stay out of their way.

no subject
Shouldn't the Avatar be doing something about it, anyway?
no subject
Look, I'm sure Korra is trying to figure all of this out right now, but it's not like it's her fault that this stuff is going on! It's not like the spirits obey her every whim and all!
no subject
Whoa, hey easy there. What are you, her boyfriend or something?
no subject
No! [More than it really should be, it comes off as a slightly hurtful 'no' in addition to being somewhat emphatic.] I mean, of course I'm not her boyfriend. My brother, yes, but...
[Technically, they never really went out or anything, and while Bolin is over the entire thing between Korra and Mako, he's already on the defensive, and he's kind of already put out with this guy. And Bolin just doesn't know when to walk away, really.]
no subject
So... then you're a boy and you're her friend?
[Yikes.]
no subject
That's what I've been trying to say! And like it or not, she's only human too, so it's not like she can just whip all of this into shape in like three days' time!
no subject
[And it's that last bit that's really the heart of the matter. He's seen a lot of people get hurt. And its not something that bodes well with Yuri.]
no subject
Well yeah, I hear you on that. I've got a friend who's suffering because of what the triads are convincing all of the shopkeepers to do. [He frowns at that.]
But I do know that she's working on trying to figure out what's going on.
