1 - The Fighting Addict

Things had been getting rough lately with the Triads getting agitated, and it hadn't escaped Yuri's notice. Despite living in the higher class part of town with that girl, for now, he still made regular trips to the Dragonflats and the surrounding areas to make sure everyone was doing okay. Unfortunately... not everything was okay. Some of the thugs had spotted and quickly surrounded Yuri and were tossing threads and accusations of him being the reason their buddies had gone missing.

"Whoa, hey, you've got the wrong guy!"

But that didn't really do anything to appease them. In fact, it only made them angrier, to the point that Repede started to growl in warning.

That's when a flash of fire, a surge of water, and pieces of earth appeared in the hands of the Triad members, their intent rather clear. They were going to take out their frustration on someone, and that someone was going to be Yuri.

"So you guys want a fight, huh?"

Flipping his sword up, he caught it by the hilt, and with a swing of his arm, sent the scabbard flying through the air. Where it hit a Triad thug square in the nose. A cry of pain and a gush of blood indicating he'd hit his mark, a smug look on the swordsman's face.

"Why you!" the others growled and quickly converged on him.

"Bring it!"

2 - Bruised and Battered

Later, Yuri can be found bruised and bloody in Avatar Korra Park. His faithful partner, Repede, laying in the grass beside him as he sat on a bench.

Feel free to approach him or hand him an ice pack.

3 - Open!

Need an idiot vigilante for any reason? Or just want to hang out? He's your man.

A. It's too cold to be outside, or she would most certainly be out. It's snowing outside the library, the flakes drifting down beyond the pane, and the woman perched in the windowsill doesn't seem to be anywhere near dressed for the weather. Her robes are light, more ornamental than practical -- some relics of a bygone era. Dark hair is impossibly long, spilling down the sill and nearly to the floor, left loose and undecorated. In her lap is a pad, and she appears to be attempting to draw . . . though it's hard to say, watching her, that she even knows how to hold a pencil. She keeps shifting her fingers, trying to find something that looks comfortable, and the scrawl that she's producing doesn't look much like anything at all.

You'll either find her trying at this or casting down her pencil in disgust, staring out at the falling snow. For anyone spiritually-inclined, she's exuding an enormous amount of spiritual presence; for anyone else, she's merely a woman -- though one who looks very out of place.

B. Sounds like the triads are at it again. They seem to have cornered a tall, pale woman in the nearby alley. Her dark eyes spear them, her voice raised in demand. Whatever she says, however, is lost on the triad members, who smirk. One sparks fire into his hands, ready to move.

The woman answers with no bending. Perhaps she doesn't have any at all.

It's been some weeks now since Yuri had discovered his new... talent. He had been disgruntled at best to learn that he was suddenly a bender. After all, he had taken pride in being able to defend himself without needing bending, using his sword skills instead. So this was quite the change and shock for him. A lot of people had their bending changed or suddenly granted to them, but most of them he'd come to find out, had lost it or gone back to normal. In his case though, he still had it.

He was an airbender now, and he had to deal with it.

So deal with it he did. Yuri had experimented with his new skills in private. Practicing when there was no one around. But lets face it, he couldn't learn as well by himself. He had never needed a master to teach him swordsmanship when he was a kid, though he did hone his skills while he was in the Earth Kingdom military. But well, bending was a whole different animal. So it was time to make a pilgrimage... to Air Temple Island. Where all the airbenders supposedly hung out.

Anyone there might see him wandering around, sword held at his side as it hung from his hand. No, he had no shame when it came to carrying weapons. He was also followed by an interesting dog. Repede, after all, was the only one that actually knew about Yuri's airbending. So they walked around, taking a look at stuff. If anyone was practicing, they would find him trying to watch discretely. He wasn't quite ready to just admit that he needed help. He was here to observe, that was it.

Things are getting bad, and fast. Yuri had been kicked out of his apartment upon being dubbed a foreigner. He hasn't been here for a year, in fact, he moved here close to the time people from other worlds showed up, Being the poor citizen he is, Yuri can't even prove he was a resident of Ba Sing Se beforehand either. Not that it would really matter if he could. Its not looking good for him, that's for sure. Homeless and unable to buy most things that he needs, even though he has plenty of money, he's got no choice but to spend most of his time at work. Which means Varrick's boat. He's not exactly happy about it, but there could be worse things.

Having heard about the gold appearing at city hall, Yuri's curiosity drove him to take a look. What he saw disgusted him. That evening the gold appeared as people said it did, and he just stands by and watches as people scramble for it. He doesn't need the stuff, and even if he did, what good would it be? Being labeled a foreigner, the gold would just give him more trouble than it was worth. Thus he just leans against the wall of a building and watches, Repede sitting next to him and huffing his disapproval as people scramble for the glittering stuff. And they say dogs are animals. Though the mysterious word that's appeared with the gold hasn't gone unnoticed. Though all he can do is speculate about it.

"Tch." Eventually Yuri gets tired of watching this and turns to go, but then something else catches his eye as it appears nearby. What appears to be a large, glittering gem. It's huge actually, for a jewel anyway. The crystal is several inches long and wide enough to be held with two hands. It's color is a light blue. Yuri stares at it for several moments. He feels like he's seen it before. But that's crazy... right? But the nagging feeling won't leave him alone. He moves towards it, but someone else swoops in and snatches it.

"Hey!" Yuri shouts at the man as he tries to flee with the stone. Repede leaps into action, putting himself in the man's path and growls menacingly. This gets the looter to pause, staring nervously at the dog. Repede barks and snaps his jaws, causing the man to back up into Yuri who looks down at him imposingly. The small man squeaks and drops the stone. "Don't hurt me!" And with that, he runs off. ... Well. That wasn't too hard. Stooping down, Yuri picks up the crystal and looks it over.

Later, Yuri takes the crystal back to Varrick's boat. He's already had several people try to snatch it from him. It would be safer to keep it there.

((OOC: Feel free to approach or run into Yuri at any point here! Or even on his way back to Varrick's boat.))

[Duo can be found wandering around the Spirit Wilds with a pencil and a newspaper in hand, scribbling bits of English onto the paper and occasionally going up to people to ask to get a bit of the text read to him.]

Hey, can you make out what that says?

[Man, he was glad the locals spoke English, even if they didn't write it. Couldn't be too hard to pick up the rest though, right?]

The White Swanfish Gala is this evening - A VIP-only event where invitations are only sent to the likes of the heads of industry, Mover stars, avatars, and their guests. The host is Wil Zan (Slade's affable civilian alter ego), and he is dressed in a fine white and blue silk nehru, smiling broadly and chatting with what seems like every patron there, one at a time. He has brought in the finest chefs to provide an unlimited stream of fine food and drink, popular musicians provide entertainment and lively music to dance to, and this gala is sure to be an event worth talking about for years.

Interestingly, Zan has set up some rather unusual security measures. Though your average riff-raff will be kept out, he has intentionally left strategic security gaps that can be bypassed by the bold and the cunning. Zan actually has men covertly watching these gaps, but instead of stopping these party-crashers, their instructions are to inform Zan. (This serves as a sort of test for potential apprentices that Slade may try to recruit in the future.)

((NOTE: This is an event log, so not every reply has to be toward Slade. Feel free to write what your character is doing at the party or how they snuck in, etc. "Zan" is likely to give you his attention, but others can too.))

[Happy Yangchen festival, everyone! Varrick may not know much about Air Nomad culture, but he knows about how to throw a party. His yacht is decked out in some festive bunting, and a cheerful kite is flying off the front bow.

Anyone wandering around town will also notice these posters plastered up just about everywhere. What, he's been busy. And over half his staff is missing, this is urgent.]

[OOC: Varrick is hiring, if you think your character would be interested in working for this sleazeball SUCH an accomplished businessman, have them wander down to the harbour. An official business looking man with a clipboard will be waiting at the gangplank and sending people through into Varrick's office.]

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]
