This part of the plot will last for the next 1 ½- 2 weeks. We’ll keep an eye on things and see how it’s going for you guys, as we don't want to hurry you, but also don't want things to drag along. Feel free to use this post for questions, discussion, and rp threads!

***

The spirit vines are spreading, unfurling tendril by tendril – first slowly, then at a rate of growth that is visible. They are spreading into territory previously left to the city’s human population, expanding the Spirit Wilds inch by inch, foot by foot. While they aren’t hurting anyone per se, and their expansion isn’t horribly fast, they are persistent. They can also be destructive, cracking through buildings and stone. Attempts to kill them or to thwart their expansion will result in a doubling of their growth, as well as additional destruction – much as occurred when Korra attempted to appease them at the beginning of Season 3 of LoK.

Additionally, strangers are appearing throughout the city – individuals that no one has seen before. They seem to be focused, interested in planting seeds . . . seeds that, when left untouched, erupt into more spirit vines the next day. Their mission seems to be to plant seeds in areas where there are none, in parts of the city where it would take longer for the vines to reach themselves. They appear in homes and businesses as well as public locations, undaunted by any chaos they cause in the process. Indeed, if people attempt to fight them off, they will be met with force as the strangers protect the seeds they plant, the vines, and any spirits in the area.

People have continued to disappear. The outsiders may even find that three of their own have vanished. Even the Triads seem daunted as their numbers slowly shrink and have quieted, banding together and holing up as though this will prevent the loss of any more. Things are looking a bit daunting in Republic City . . . What will you do about it?

You can expect:
+ Spirit vines in unexpected places
+ Property damage as spirit vines expand their territory
+ Persistent strangers appearing in places they shouldn’t be (including your bedroom!)
+ Those same strangers being touchy about you not wanting seeds planted in your bedroom
+ Citizens displaced/needing help as spirit vines slowly take over more buildings
+ A general sense of anxiety and panic in the city

1 - The Fighting Addict

Things had been getting rough lately with the Triads getting agitated, and it hadn't escaped Yuri's notice. Despite living in the higher class part of town with that girl, for now, he still made regular trips to the Dragonflats and the surrounding areas to make sure everyone was doing okay. Unfortunately... not everything was okay. Some of the thugs had spotted and quickly surrounded Yuri and were tossing threads and accusations of him being the reason their buddies had gone missing.

"Whoa, hey, you've got the wrong guy!"

But that didn't really do anything to appease them. In fact, it only made them angrier, to the point that Repede started to growl in warning.

That's when a flash of fire, a surge of water, and pieces of earth appeared in the hands of the Triad members, their intent rather clear. They were going to take out their frustration on someone, and that someone was going to be Yuri.

"So you guys want a fight, huh?"

Flipping his sword up, he caught it by the hilt, and with a swing of his arm, sent the scabbard flying through the air. Where it hit a Triad thug square in the nose. A cry of pain and a gush of blood indicating he'd hit his mark, a smug look on the swordsman's face.

"Why you!" the others growled and quickly converged on him.

"Bring it!"

2 - Bruised and Battered

Later, Yuri can be found bruised and bloody in Avatar Korra Park. His faithful partner, Repede, laying in the grass beside him as he sat on a bench.

Feel free to approach him or hand him an ice pack.

3 - Open!

Need an idiot vigilante for any reason? Or just want to hang out? He's your man.

A: The Triad - OPEN
[With all of the unrest running through the city in the past months, a little more was hardly a shocking surprise to at least Opal herself. Not that she relished in more fighting and bickering but it wasn't such a surprising view anymore. It seemed like the spirit barrier coming down had caused more strife than it ever had while it was up.

With things squared away and calmed down in Zaofu, Opal could dedicate herself to training a bit more. Now it was more of the occasional trip home than the constant task of being there that it had been before. And that freed Opal up for both more time training and more time in Republic City itself.

That had unfortunate negative sides too. A run in with Triad members in broad daylight had turned into them turning on the airbender in her obvious acolyte garb. Their argument with her is loud and heated.]

You Airbenders are supposed to be all about protecting everyone, yeah? So wheres our protection? Where's our help when our buddies are being spirited off?

[The small group all voice their agreement with their evident leader, even as Opal speaks over top of them.]

We're doing all we can. These last few months have been trying on everybody.

[Not that her words seem to sooth anyone. This is likely going to come to blows or at the very least the airbender tossing around a few people. Help out?]
B: Air Temple Island - OPEN
[Opal's home away from home you could say. It's very likely one will be seeing more of the young woman nowadays, returning to her former habits of helping out about the island more. One can run into her:

I: Cleaning Up - Whether this includes sweeping walkways or helping with the morning/evening dishes, she'll be willing to help.
II: Training - The primary reason she's here after all.
III: In Her Room - Stop on by if you like ... and if you can get into the women's dorm.]
C: The Library - OPEN
[Ever since Jinora showed her where the library was in that first month of being in Republic City, Opal has taken to the building just like one would expect her to. Expect to see her exploring the shelves, checking out books or taking advantage of the reading spaces tucked here and there within the building itself.]
D: Wildcard
[For those prompts that just don't fit anywhere else.]

CLOSED TO TEAM RJBY )

[ Around Republic City & Avatar Korra Park ]

[ Dogs needed walks and that was exactly what Zwei was going to get. Altogether, the dog was very excited to be in the new city. Though without a leash, the dog was happy to follow his owner. Occasionally he would stop to offer strangers a friendly bark, hoping for a pet or a bite of food they had just purchased.

Yang showed him as much as the city as possible, pointing out wherever they were going whether the Probending Arena or the statue of Avatar Korra in the park. Zwei took a particular liking to the park, there were tons of trees to pee on and he even took a moment to sniff and take a leak on Korra's statue. Yang sighed loudly. ]

Zwei, you can't pee on that, that's our Avatar. [ The corgi tilted his head at the statue and parked before he pranced back to Yang with a wag of his tail as if asking where to next. ]

[ Ferry & Air Temple Island ]

[ Through their adventures around the City, Yang and Zwei decided to surprise Ruby during her break in training with carry out. As Yang was not blessed with the ability to bend air, she was forced to take the ferry across to Air Temple Island. Both woman and dog enjoyed the nice breeze across the ferry well enough though and occasionally Zwei would run in circles in excitement.

As they reached land, Zwei sniffed the ground and barked loudly. ]
Alright Zwei, this is what you're made for! Let's go surprise Ruby!

[ Zwei barked in response and took off... in completely the opposite direction. ] Hey-- Zwei, wait up! You're going the wrong way!

[ But the dog had a mind of his own, rather than taking the quickest way to training location he took the long way around. Running through the kitchens, indoors and occasionally stopping to sniff outside someone's room, only to bark and run off again.

Yang sighed after him, often offering the same apology along the way. ]
Sorry, he's just excited.

[ Probending Arena ]

[ Even on days that Bolin wasn't drilling the team, the Fire Ferrets newest fire bender took the initiative to keep herself in shape. Most mornings she could be found doing laps around the arena with the "help" of a corgi. Around the fifth lap or so the dog usually gave up, choosing to watch her and bark his encouragement over joining her. Out of team pride, she wore ferret colors while she ran.

Once she completed laps, she would head inside and work on squats, sit ups, push ups and fire bending forms. ]

A: The streets
[ If Lin emerging from the spirit wilds wasn't odd, she didn't know what was. She wasn't spiritual. She had no idea what she was doing in or even so close to them. She ran her hand over her face once she was free from the vines. She would like to know why she was near the vines. She was not particularly spiritual and she wasn't quite so fond of dabbling in something like spiritual matters. It was another language to her. She shook her head to try and clear the fog that felt like it was clouding her mind. She was chief of police. She couldn't stand around and question all day. She had to take care of a few things, namely her job. She was going to take the long way. She could use the time to both figure out what was going on and to make sure no one was causing trouble while she was around. ]

B: Police Station
[ Lin can be found almost anywhere near or in the station. She didn't know what happened but whatever did it threw all of the work she used to have out of whack. Things had changed. People seemed to react slightly differently to her but she was willing to chalk that up to imagination. Either way she looks like she's in a more natural state of being then she was before. She's not to back in the saddle yet but she's creeping closer. Either way she has a lot on her mind and the pacing, the work, the people all help distract from the more useless thoughts. ]

[It has (probably) been said that Asami Sato is incapable of anything less than perfect dignity and poise. She lives up to this, as she settles at the gazebo on Air Temple Island, followed by a small army of turtleducks. She's not so great with kids, but this, she can manage. She's on her way home from the office, and there are some items of potential interest laid off to the side where she's seated. Namely, preliminary blueprints for the reconstruction of the city roads. They have to work around the spirits somehow.]

a) [If you stop by, you could find her gently patting their heads and feeding them breadcrumbs.]

b) [There are moments, however, when she is, indeed, not a beautiful, prissy, elegant rich girl.]

AAAaaAAHH-

[Dangling from her hair, in that spot she just can't reach, (you know the one, Varrick) is a turtleduck who got a little too excited about feeding time. And she could really use some help with it, right about now. Or, you could sit back and enjoy the resulting dance as she tries NOT to panic.

Spoilers, she's kind of panicking.]

[Dick Gumshoe, a local earthbending police detective who wishes he was a metalbending cop but is perpetually down on his luck. The good detective can be found at a few locales throughout the city.

A. Sitting on the steps of city hall during a lunch break. He'll be eating from a dinky container of Flameo Instant noodles while also dabbling at a sketchbook. The sketches are far from professional, but they seem to be reflecting some kind of badgermole-like creature.

B. By the police station! He'll mostly be there to do business... or just chat up everyone in the area and look for cases to latch onto. And if someone doesn't seem to belong there, he may pop over to see if they need to be questioned. He may also have a dog with him.

C. In an empty-ish lot within the spirit wilds, where he practices his earthbending. He's also set up a tin can on a dormant vine, and he'll make many a valiant, exaggerated effort to bend it. The result is him holding a ridiculous-looking pose while staring the can down for several minutes.]

I;
What happened to Republic City? The last thing Iroh remembers was hearing that Amon had been unbasked as a bender and had disappeared, then he had suddenly woken up in a very strange place (the Spirit World, he's almost positive it was the Spirit World - though how did he manage to get there?) and found his way here, back to Republic City. The only problem was that Republic City had changed immensely overnight - the vines everywhere are the first indication, but he's seen spirits milling around and the general feeling of the city is off somehow, though Iroh hasn't been able to pinpoint exactly why.

He was making his way toward City Hall to try to get some idea of what was going on, but Iroh has stopped to pick up a newspaper and is currently reading it, looking troubled.

The first section is troubling, but more confusing than anything else. It's the section regarding his grandfather that's causing his eyebrows to knit as he scans it. "There is supposedly a time-displaced younger Lord Zuko now installed as interim Fire Lord following Fire Lord Izumi's disappearance. Whether or not the 'young' Zuko is actually Lord Zuko's past self or a very convincing child actor, this means that Lord Zuko now has direct control of two nations. Is it possible our 'interim' President plans on having his rule be not so temporary? It is awfully convenient that his own daughter has disappeared in the same manner of President Raiko - and as we've now learned, the other world leaders of the nations and prominent cities within them - and this has allowed him to not only be voted in as the interim President of the United Republic, but to set a hand-picked puppet where his daughter used to sit."

"President Raiko...?" The name doesn't sound familiar. Since when did Republic City have a president, and why would his grandfather take over if said president had disappeared? What about Fire Lord Izumi? What had happened to her? What's going on here?

Iroh can be found puzzling over the newspaper on the side of the street. He's wearing the usual United Forces uniform (this one isn't missing a sleeve, thankfully). He looks more concerned than confused and he won't be looking up from that paper unless he's directly addressed.

II;
Once he's done with the newspaper, Iroh decides that the best thing to do is continue to City Hall. If his grandfather really is in charge right now, he can surely answer Iroh's questions. If Lord Zuko isn't in charge (or isn't in), he can at least find a phone to get in contact with the United Forces to figure out what happened.

Iroh stops dead in the street when City Hall comes into view. It certainly isn't the normal City Hall and the vines growing from it are quite impressive. Hopefully the place is still in good shape inside, because the last thing he wants is to find out that this isn't where he needs to be.

Air Temple Island:

A. Aang starts off his morning with airbending training. Some meditation, some rounds through the air gates, some general practice of forms and some balancing upon pillars. He'll be glad to tutor anyone else in need of instruction. He is a master, after all, even if he's claiming not to be Avatar Aang. Just a random prodigy airbender who happens to be named Aang! At least, that's the cover story he's trying this week.

B. This young monk has commandeered the kitchen! His goal? To make some fruit pies! Feel free to stumble across him while he's in the act of baking them, while some doting air acolytes try to help out.

Republic City/Spirit Worlds

C. And so Aang makes his way through the city atop his sky bison, Appa, who has a large batch of the fruit pies kept on his back. Aang may stop to check in on any number of his friends if they're around, with personalized fruit pies for new friends and old.

D. Aang will also spend time down exploring the Spirit Wilds. He'll use the rest of his batch of fruit pies here, distributing them to those who need it. He'll also try to investigate the spirit vines and wandering spirits some more, puzzled about all of the odd things he's heard about so far.

E. Finally, he can be found near the barrier, meditating in an attempt to commune with the spirits. He better be careful with all those stray spirits wandering about...

Option A. Spirit Wilds (OPEN)

With the press catching on that she was "recovered" and around again, it was only a matter of time before they started trying to hound her for more information. And only a matter of time before Korra realized the Spirit Wilds were a perfect place for her to get some peace and quiet from them. The people in the city were still wary of the vines and tended to stay away. The spirits were a different matter, of course. The vines were their home, and Korra occasionally saw them watching her curiously as she passed.

There was one that was particularly persistent. She swore she saw those leafy ears disappearing behind some vines at least four times in the past half hour. What the heck was it doing?

When Korra heard some rustling behind her only a few minutes later, she stopped and said, "If you're going to follow me, you could at least quit it with the hiding act."

Except it wasn't the spirit at all when she turned around. "Oh, sorry! I thought you were...someone else."

Option B. Around Air Temple Island (OPEN)

Though Korra had trained all her life, there were still new things to be learned about bending all the time. After seeing a few air new air benders practicing the day before, Korra had the bright idea to do the same, with one of the more...interesting training moves. The tip of her tongue stuck out as she concentrated on balancing with one foot on the narrow pole, her hand raised and keeping a leaf dancing above her palm with a gentle air spiral. She stayed aloft for a few minutes, thinking how it wasn't as bad as she thought it might be...

Of course, her balance only lasted until a lemur, without a certain young air bender to latch onto, leapt onto her head and sent her tumbling to the ground with a yelp.

"Pokey, get back here! Ugh." Korra watched him fly off with a scowl as she rubbed at her head. Hopefully, no one had been around to see that...

Option C. Closed to Lord Zuko

Lord Zuko's presence in the city was a great relief to Korra, especially with Raiko, Lin, and Tenzin all missing. Now that a few weeks had passed, with still no news or developments, she thought it was high time she and Lord Zuko had another talk.

Following his directions to his home in Republic City, she loitered outside the door, twisting the material of her shirt between her fingers. This is stupid, she thought after a few minutes. Breathing in, she forced herself to raise her hand and knock on the door firmly.

[EDIT:  OOC:  This post is mostly private for waterbenders and firebenders as they're the only people that would actually be trying out.  However, if you want to interact with some of the others (and Bolin would be okay with you being there -- feel free to ask me if you're unsure!), feel free to pose in, either for Bolin or with the other people involved.  Sorry for the complicated rules and whatnot, but I figure it'd be worth it to be inclusive as opposed to exclusive!]

[Private-ish to firebenders and waterbenders]

"Alright, Pabu.  It's time to get the Fire Ferrets back in action!  Are you with me?"

The fire ferret squeaks in approval as he sits atop Bolin's shoulder.  Bolin nods back with the biggest grin, and he pushes open the doors into the gym where no doubt several candidates were waiting to join his elite crew.

"Welcome, everyone, to the official Fire Ferrets team tryouts.  I might not have met each of you personally, and you might have instead just found one of my many fliers instead, but my name is Bolin, team captain and previous pro-bending champion!  Also, I'm a mover star and the earthbender of the team.  I hope you've all brought your A-game to this event, because only the best of the best can be on the Fire Ferrets, and this year we're going to show all those other teams what we're made of and take back the championship!  I'm not going to go easy on you, and I definitely want to make sure we're taking on the right people.  Some of you will go away disappointed, but two of you will ride with Pabu and I to victory once again!  To each of you, I wish you all the best of luck.  Let's get started!

"So first up today, we have..."

[OOC: Bolin will be pairing up potential candidates into 1v1 or 2v2 matches.  Feel free to find a friend with the opposite element and fight some NPCs, or find a competitor of your element and have a duel with one another?  Or have a more personal "interview" with Bolin... and you can try to get to know Bolin and the rocks that he throws at people better?  Or all of the above!  While you do need to impress Bolin, feel free to have fun and show off your bending to your competitors too.]

16 October 2014 @ 12:55 am
With this much upheaval in the city and an election on the way, you can bet all the fringe candidates are starting to come out of the woodwork. On a wall near the barrier (that has acquired somewhat of a trellis of outrageously colored flowers due to the dispersion of the barrier), handbills are starting to be pasted up. Some are the usual political nonsense you'd expect, some are screeds against the current regime (or lack thereof), some are just plain nutty, blaming the current situation on some sort of vast platypus bear conspiracy and calling people to rally in the park in protest of it. Among all the various papers is some graffiti of an eight-petaled lotus with an eye in the center. Is it a portent of things to come, or did someone get bored and decide to leave his personal mark on the wall?

Maybe both.

Judar has parked himself at the street corner with an armful of fruit and is watching traffic go by and the occasional unlucky soul get latched onto by a spirit. He's totally not paying attention to conversations about the various postings on the wall. Not at all. Just having a snack. Listening to people talk is Lau's job anyway.

The White Swanfish Gala is this evening - A VIP-only event where invitations are only sent to the likes of the heads of industry, Mover stars, avatars, and their guests. The host is Wil Zan (Slade's affable civilian alter ego), and he is dressed in a fine white and blue silk nehru, smiling broadly and chatting with what seems like every patron there, one at a time. He has brought in the finest chefs to provide an unlimited stream of fine food and drink, popular musicians provide entertainment and lively music to dance to, and this gala is sure to be an event worth talking about for years.

Interestingly, Zan has set up some rather unusual security measures. Though your average riff-raff will be kept out, he has intentionally left strategic security gaps that can be bypassed by the bold and the cunning. Zan actually has men covertly watching these gaps, but instead of stopping these party-crashers, their instructions are to inform Zan. (This serves as a sort of test for potential apprentices that Slade may try to recruit in the future.)

((NOTE: This is an event log, so not every reply has to be toward Slade. Feel free to write what your character is doing at the party or how they snuck in, etc. "Zan" is likely to give you his attention, but others can too.))

04 October 2014 @ 12:01 am
It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]
