[ Around Republic City & Avatar Korra Park ]

[ Dogs needed walks and that was exactly what Zwei was going to get. Altogether, the dog was very excited to be in the new city. Though without a leash, the dog was happy to follow his owner. Occasionally he would stop to offer strangers a friendly bark, hoping for a pet or a bite of food they had just purchased.

Yang showed him as much as the city as possible, pointing out wherever they were going whether the Probending Arena or the statue of Avatar Korra in the park. Zwei took a particular liking to the park, there were tons of trees to pee on and he even took a moment to sniff and take a leak on Korra's statue. Yang sighed loudly. ]

Zwei, you can't pee on that, that's our Avatar. [ The corgi tilted his head at the statue and parked before he pranced back to Yang with a wag of his tail as if asking where to next. ]

[ Ferry & Air Temple Island ]

[ Through their adventures around the City, Yang and Zwei decided to surprise Ruby during her break in training with carry out. As Yang was not blessed with the ability to bend air, she was forced to take the ferry across to Air Temple Island. Both woman and dog enjoyed the nice breeze across the ferry well enough though and occasionally Zwei would run in circles in excitement.

As they reached land, Zwei sniffed the ground and barked loudly. ]
Alright Zwei, this is what you're made for! Let's go surprise Ruby!

[ Zwei barked in response and took off... in completely the opposite direction. ] Hey-- Zwei, wait up! You're going the wrong way!

[ But the dog had a mind of his own, rather than taking the quickest way to training location he took the long way around. Running through the kitchens, indoors and occasionally stopping to sniff outside someone's room, only to bark and run off again.

Yang sighed after him, often offering the same apology along the way. ]
Sorry, he's just excited.

[ Probending Arena ]

[ Even on days that Bolin wasn't drilling the team, the Fire Ferrets newest fire bender took the initiative to keep herself in shape. Most mornings she could be found doing laps around the arena with the "help" of a corgi. Around the fifth lap or so the dog usually gave up, choosing to watch her and bark his encouragement over joining her. Out of team pride, she wore ferret colors while she ran.

Once she completed laps, she would head inside and work on squats, sit ups, push ups and fire bending forms. ]

A - Keeping In Shape

[Keeping in shape and being prepared was never really a habit that Blake had fallen out of, it had been drilled into her mind every day since her training had begun as a child. Training to fight benders, opponents who possessed abilities she couldn't match, the power to pull their weapons from the very world around them. To counter that, she had to make herself into a weapon and a weapon needed to be kept sharp and ready if it was to be any use. Plus it was nice to let her mind wander for a little while and not focus on troubles ranging from paying bills to whatever the spirits were doing to cause trouble now.

So, right now she can be found in one of Republic City's gyms dealing out a pretty heavy beating to one of the punching bags with rapid-fire punches and kicks. Of course, she's more used to training with an actual sparring partner but this would have to do for now....]

B - Paying the Bills With Bonus Yang Xiao Long

[Okay, so waitressing isn't exactly a particularly glamorous career path by any stretch of the imagination, but it could be worse. The pay was alright, the staff was agreeable, the hours were flexible. But there was always something... and in this case, it's the fact that the boss couldn't seem to pick a theme and settle on it and each month brought a brand new surprise. This time when she'd come in, she'd been presented with the most recent result of a late night "inspiration": maid cafe.

... Fantastic. You can be sure she'll be approaching this new setup with all the enthusiasm she's known for, or maybe a few customers will luck out and get the waitress who's actually on board with this nonsense.]

C - Cleaning Up the Streets

[Republic City wasn't the safest place in the world at the best, most stable of times, and the times the people are living in now are far from that. The typical dangers of the Triads and Equalist remnants were joined by angry citizens determined to get the so-called "foreigners" out of town. The police couldn't possibly be everywhere at once and somebody else had to step in where they couldn't be.

That somebody is currently moving through the city in the dead of night. Masked, hooded and sticking to the shadows. Few even knew she was out there and fewer still had seen her in action but one thing is certain tonight. Should trouble rear its head in Republic City's streets, the White Fang wouldn't be far behind.]

D - Choose Your Own Adventure

[Got something else in mind? Fire away. Aside from any of the above, Blake can be found roaming the streets doing everything from carrying groceries, keeping to herself and reading a book, or any of the above. Feel free to drop in on her anywhere you like.]

She doesn't remember anything.

It's a jarring feeling, to have no recollection of the series of events that have led up to this moment - to her standing in Republic City, near the Spirit Wilds, still as she always is among the throng of people going to and fro. Could this be one of Varrick's ridiculous plans? Some transporter that had the unintentional side effect of ruining her memory in the process? No, that didn't sound right. She can clearly remember what they'd been working on in Zaofu. The gap in her memory seems to have started one night when she went to sleep and ended here, with absolutely nothing in the middle.

She needs a moment. Just a moment to duck her head, to push her glasses up, to try to force herself to recall something from the past... period of time. She doesn't even know how long she's been like this. When nothing comes to mind, she comes up with a second plan, just as she always does.

Straightening and feeling for her notebook (breathing a sigh of relief when she finds it where it always is), she approaches the nearest person she can find, tapping them on the shoulder. Brisk and efficient as always. This isn't a problem she can't fix. "Excuse me. Do you happen to know if Varrick is in the city?"

[It has (probably) been said that Asami Sato is incapable of anything less than perfect dignity and poise. She lives up to this, as she settles at the gazebo on Air Temple Island, followed by a small army of turtleducks. She's not so great with kids, but this, she can manage. She's on her way home from the office, and there are some items of potential interest laid off to the side where she's seated. Namely, preliminary blueprints for the reconstruction of the city roads. They have to work around the spirits somehow.]

a) [If you stop by, you could find her gently patting their heads and feeding them breadcrumbs.]

b) [There are moments, however, when she is, indeed, not a beautiful, prissy, elegant rich girl.]

AAAaaAAHH-

[Dangling from her hair, in that spot she just can't reach, (you know the one, Varrick) is a turtleduck who got a little too excited about feeding time. And she could really use some help with it, right about now. Or, you could sit back and enjoy the resulting dance as she tries NOT to panic.

Spoilers, she's kind of panicking.]

It wasn't unlike Kiyi to wake up before most of the other occupants of the Palace, but while most mornings a servant or two would be at her side immediately, they were otherwise preoccupied for the time being.

Her feet tapped lightly at the floor as she left her bed and made for the door, her brows furrowed at the strange sounds coming from its opposite side and her brother's turtleducklett pecking at the door (because, of course, Littler Zuko had his own place in the palace).

When the door was opened, she was even more glad for the ducklett's ribbon around its neck.

It would make it a lot easier to find him amidst the thousands that had somehow appeared throughout her new home.

Positively beaming, the girl laughed and ran for her older brother's room, sending tiny yellow feathers flying as the turtleducks squawked and dove from her path.

"Zuko! Zuko, Zuko, Zukoooooo!!!!!!"

((The palace is full of turtleducks! :D Come play with Kiyi's new friends!))

[Once Korra and Jinora return from the South Pole, spirits a little dampened by their findings (no pun intended), Korra remembers that she has a certain promise to keep. Unfortunately, things get a little hectic as she reports the bad news--Katara and her parents all missing from the Southern Water Tribe, the presence of other barriers around the South Pole--though she'd spoken to Bumi over the radio already. It takes a few days for things to settle down again, and it's only then that Korra goes looking for Jin.

She hands the note ("Come by Air Temple in the next few days!") to Wan, hoping it'll reach the right hands. After that, all she can do is wait for Jin to find her way here.]

Since Duo was one of those who found themselves loaded up with gold, he was putting it to good use. Hiding most of it for later, he purchased as many loaves of bread that he could fit in his bag from one of the few shops still letting people who were less than local shop (even if he had a feeling it was day-old, not fresh), and now walked around the poorer neighborhood handing out rough meat and cheese sandwiches to those who looked hungry, or he'd seen working around the city too.

"Oi! Hungry?"

13 December 2014 @ 10:43 pm
[1]
While camping considerably close to City Hall to make sure they were around for all that gold snatching, Nabooru and her girls have started a contained campfire to ward off against the cold. They're mostly all sitting around chatting amongst themselves, laughing more often than not. One of them probably waves to you, beckoning you over with a sweet smile. Why not share the warmth? Nabooru herself seems to be dealing with another girl who is handing her a new winter cloak with their recognizable patterns down the back. For those that have ever traveled by desert or have come from the Earth Kingdom, they might be somewhat recognizable as the symbols of a well known band of thieves.

Getting close enough, Nabooru herself will take notice. "Go on and sit. The fire's free. The food isn't." They seemed to be cooking something that smelled decently pleasant.

[2]
On one of the nights the gold starts appearing at City Hall, Nabooru is ready to fly into action. With the ease of her thieving skills, she will manage to gather quite more than her fair share. She doesn't fight fair, either, using her bending abilities like nobody's business. If shifting a bunch of earth underneath someone to get an advantage is necessary, she will do it. And when she's settled on that her pockets are just full enough, she'll be taking off! Watching her back to make sure no one is following her, however, doesn't leave her eyes set so forward. A rookie mistake. Honestly, she's better than that. But eventually that is bound to get her in trouble, running right into another body, sending the gold filling her pockets clattering with a jaunty jingle straight to the ground. "Hey!" Because clearly, that was your fault, wasn't it?

[3]
The only thing Nabooru likes better than stealing is reading. She loves getting lost in fantasy worlds like no other. And so she's taken to visiting one of the ritzier book shops in the better part of town. Their books didn't have highlights and tons of earmarks or cracked spines. She wanted her books to be hers ... regardless of if they were cheesy romance novels or not. But as she's never gotten herself truly documented since skipping from the desert, on this particular trip she gets thrown out- but not before making a ton of noise. No one can deny her her books! ....but that's exactly what's happening.

((First and second are pretty self explanatory (though for the first if you want to recognize the Gerudo as the thieving band of possible murderers who once roamed the deserts outside the Earth Kingdom that's fine too!), the third you can catch her in the middle of fighting with the clerk about how ridiculous the ID thing is or right after she gets thrown out of the store and the doors shut in her face. Anything goes! All are welcome.))

[Connor arrived in Republic City a day ago, so while he isn't as clueless as he was when he first arrived, he's still at something of a loss. Things are so different in this time: the satomobiles and airships still make him jumpy, and the sheer amount of people in the city are overwhelming. So far Varrick had shown him kindness by helping him, but Connor didn't want to rely on a fellow tribesman's generosity for too long, no matter how wealthy they happened to be.

So, even though he's still very much unfamiliar with the city, he's looking for a job when construction listings advertised catch his eye in a window.]

"Must be good at working with heights"... [He turns and cranes his head at the dizzyingly high skyscrapers, considering. Even with his climbing abilities, these were higher than anything he'd ever scaled.] Perhaps it could be a worthwhile challenge.

It had been two weeks since Lord Zuko first travelled to the Fire Nation with the others. He returned a week ago, deciding he had imparted as much information as he could give his younger self about the modern Fire Nation's state of affairs, and he had taken on new advisors that would assist the interrim Fire Lord in getting his footing. Uncle Iroh was there to support the younger Zuko, too, he'd left Druk behind to protect the palace from any would-be opportunists, and even Avatar Wan had offered his help joining the search parties in finding Izumi.

In short, Lord Zuko had done everything he felt he could at this time to keep the Fire Nation stable, and his duties to Republic City beckoned again, forcing him to return. The unrest in the city of late had to be addressed. Early this particular morning, however, while he was preparing for a meeting at City Hall, Zuko did not expect a page to rush in with a message there was a dragon outside the building. He hurried outside, and sure enough, there was Druk, waiting patiently.

"Druk? I asked you to stay in the Fire Nation, old friend." Zuko approached his dragon companion, resting a hand on his broad muzzle. "Why did you come back?"

Druk simply stared at him and gave a low rumble. His appearance here worried Zuko. If something had happened in the Fire Nation that would make Druk seek him out, or if there was something wrong with the portal, he needed to investigate right away.

[ooc: feel free to use this as a catchall if you want to thread out your character being dragged back from the Fire Nation after the two-week mark! THANKS SPIRIT WORLD.]

What: See the Title
Where: Fire Nation!
When: Any time you're in the Fire Nation during November (following the portal opening)

The Portal between Air Temple Island and the Fire Nation comes out directly into the Royal Plaza. Security has been set up around the portal, metal walls several feet out with a few windows (so the military could make sure those traveling between the locations were not threats) blocked easy access to the rest of the Plaza. Those people who didn't have what was considered a good reason to visit the Palace were allowed to visit the city located outside the Caldera, while actual guests of the Royal family were escorted to pre-prepared rooms or small villas on the palace grounds.

Things would likely change in the future, but for the first couple weeks following the opening of the portal, if you came through the portal, you probably had a better reason for being there than 'it seemed like fun'.

Unless your name was Kiyi or Wan or Toph or Aang or- You know what? 'it seemed like fun' was probably a perfectly fine reason.

ooc: This is a catch all for anyone who wants to do general threads in the Fire Nation. Tag in, tag around, have fun.

#1 - At your service!
Ah, telephones. A luxury item. They're mostly reserved for people with enough money to live in Borough #1 or people of high status, but today could be a very lucky day! Maybe! Satoru is going door to door with a mission and that mission is to sell telephones. Or sell something. Sure, his main goal is to convince consumers that they need a telephone and simply can't live without it, but telephones are still a little pricey. So! Every telephone salesman needs a backup plan. He has a variety of backups carefully packed away in a sack. Plus, he's got an arsenal of skills. Leaky roof? He can fix that! Empty fridge? He can go shopping for you! Whatever it takes to make people think (even more!) positively of Varrick's business.

So, ahem. Knock knock!

#2 - Breaktime! Part I
It's less of a break and more of a "finished with work" kind of thing, but Satoru has taken refuge in Avatar Korra Park, something he finds a little funny because he'd only recently learned the name of the current Avatar. Oops. At the moment, it's around sunset and he's demonstrating quite the skill! The "cannot play sports" skill, if you will. He's doing it mostly to pass time (and to probably forget about how terrible of a salesman he is), so he doesn't seem too bothered when he misses his ball with the stick he's using, or when the ball doesn't go very far. At least he has a good attitude about it.

3 - Breaktime! Part II
Okay, so sports aren't his thing but that's fine. Sports aren't his passion! Engineering is. So he's ditched the ball and his stick he stole from nearby a poor, defenseless tree and pulls out a sheet of parchment. Instead of drawing a blueprint of anything—he's 100% sure he'll never build anything as cool as one of those airships any time soon—he folds it up into a paper airship instead. By the time he's got something airworthy, the sun's just about finished setting. To be honest, Satoru thinks his build is pretty good for it being made out of a sheet of parchment. When he throws it in the air, it even flies a little. Hooray!

Things are pretty terrific! Until he excitedly catches the paper airship and it catches ablaze out of nowhere. What. No. WHY?!

"C-Combustible paper?! Do they make that here?!"

Satoru instinctively drops the burning paper and it drops into the grass. At least he has the brains to snuff out the fire with the heel of his boot before it can spread. Hopefully... no one saw that....

"Who invents that kind of thing, anyway?"

THAT MORNING.... // Closed to Yang Xiao Long. )

----

LATER THAT DAY....

[A. What's this? Little Ruby... actually found herself a job? That's great!

Well, if you like being dressed up in a chickencow suit and dancing around in front of a restaurant in order to hand out flyers.

She sure is working hard for her money. Who knows, if you come at the right time, she might be actually handing out dumpling samples! Most of the time though, she will be doing a variety of various dances in order to grab your attention!]

Hey! Come on down and get our world famous dumplings! The noodles are just divine! [...] Watch me break it down, so you can break your fast~!

[Now she's busting out the big moves. Please stop her before she tries spinning on her head.]

----

EVEN LATER THAT DAY....

[B. Okay, now there's screaming. And flailing. And things are on fire again.]

Aah! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I don't know what's going on!! Why me?!

[This time, it's a huge stack of flyers that she was assigned to hand out. They're all burning and Ruby's trying hard to put them out, but-- wait. No! That'll catch the suit on fire! That suit costs a month's pay!

Help?]

----

COMPLETELY LATER THAT DAY....

[C. Well.

She tried.

It was a valiant effort to make her own money, but Ruby had been sent home for being "hazardous to her working environment" or whatever. She has an hour or two to kill, so she's making her way to the park and flopping down next to the Korra statue, face in her hands, sighing loudly...]

Why is life so hard? I might as well have caused an explosion...

[Oh, no. She's SAD. Cheer the young girl up, maybe?]

----

(ooc. COMPLETELY OPEN. Say hi, take a flyer, make fun of her in the suit, idegaf. Please help this beautiful disaster. She doesn't know why firebending is a thing she is so lost oh my god.

Oh, and even though I have brackets here, if you prefer prose, just reply as that. I will follow suit. :3d)

A) City Streets

[With the barrier having fallen the previous night, Henry's already on the look out for some semblance of his family. They still hadn't shown up yet which is beginning to worry the boy. But, now they had to be here. After all, something like that bright light had to mean something.

However, he did not expect his day to start off like this. As he's looking about trying to find some new clue to this ever going mystery he begins to feel his nose twitch irritably. He walks on but goes rubs his nose to stop the irritation. It still continues to itch and twitch to the point that he knows he's going to sneeze. He stops abruptly feeling the sneeze well up inside him, going up through his chest and into his nose and:]

ACHOOO!

[A sneeze that loud is bound to catch anyone's attention. The real eye catcher is what follows right after. A 12 year old boy flying about 20 feet into the air and grabbing onto a lamppost who now dangerously hangs off of it. There's only one thing to do:]

HEEEEELP!

b) Air temple island

[So after his little misadventure, Henry's first thought is to go to the place where apparently this happens quite often or at the very least who knows what it is. He'd only been given a brief understanding of what airbending was and what happened earlier definitely qualified as such. He wanders the grounds for a bit, looking for just about anybody who'd have an idea of what the heck just happened to him.]

A: Park Fountains

[ During her stay here in Republic City, Jin had been doing a little exploring to get herself familiar wtih this new city. One of her favorite places she'd found was the park, or rather a particular place in the park. The park had fountains that just seemed so beautiful and it reminded her of home.

It was such a peaceful place to sit and relax, so Jin found herself sitting on the edge of the fountain with her feet in the water just kicking at it and enjoying the chilliness. She wasn't even bothered by the strange stares she was getting from people.

What's the fun in enjoying a fountain if you couldn't get a little wet, right?
]

B: Spirit Wilds

[ The Spirit wilds were certainly a big attraction in Republic City to someone who wasn't used to this place. Jin knew from the warnings of people and from the newspaper articles that it could get really dangerous to roam too close and get too curious about the spirits, but it was hard to resist. When you lived in a time where spotting spirits didn't happen every day, it was a little exciting being able to watch.

So Jin stood at a far enough distance from the wilds, just watching some of the spirits scurrying around in fascination.
]

They're surprisingly cute...

C: Little Ba Sing Se

[ Despite the fact that things seemed so hi-tech in this area, it really just gave her a big blast of home. All the colors, all the shops it was all like little parts of Ba Sing Se were pushed all the way over here in Repubic city. She was wandering around to all of the shops after work, mostly just window shopping and taking in the familiar feeling of home.

She had a small basket under her arms full of flowers she bought and anyone she spotted while she was window shopping with a frown on their face, she gave them a flower to brighten up their day before running off to explore more.

A: Outside Lower Class Apartments

[ Despite her upbringing as a nobleman's daughter and her status of "best friend" to the Fire Nation's princess, there was a lot that Ty Lee did not learn growing up. She could recite all the former Fire Lords, knew what utensils to use at a former dinner and more than knew how to handle herself in a fight. But one thing Ty Lee never did learn was the real concept of money.

All her life Ty Lee had gotten everything she had needed for survival. Either her father paid for things or Azula intimidated them out of people. Even a part of the traveling circus she didn't really need to worry about room and board. Republic City on the other hand, was an entirely different mater.

While Ty Lee had no problem flirting with the locals boys for food and other necessities, this was one situation she couldn't flirt her way out of. Ty Lee had been unfortunate enough that her landlord was one entirely against newcomers getting a "free break", so when the teenager came up empty with rent for the month they had graciously shown her the door.

Ty Lee had been about to protest when her few bags of things were unceremoniously thrown out onto the street, the latch opening as it hit the ground and clothing spilling out into the dirty street. The teenager pouted. ]
Fine, I didn't want to live in this dirty place anyway!

[ With a huff, Ty Lee shoved her clothing back into the bags and could be found the rest of the day carting around her bags and looking for a new place to live. ]

B: Street Performing

[ If Ty Lee was going to find a new place to live and start paying rent, she was going to need money to do it. While Varrick had offered her a spot in his movers, it wasn't getting her the money she needed now. It was only natural that Ty Lee chose to do something she was good at-- Performing!

Although, it was only street performing, Ty Lee quickly learned she could get a crowd and a decent amount of yuan with her special skill set. She can be found on various streets through the week, even going as far as to paint her face with white and pink make up for lack of a proper circus costume. ]

C: Yoga in the park

[ A girl had to keep her aura pink somehow, especially when she had the additional stress of actively trying to make money and find a place to live. Ty Lee can be found in the park every day at sun-up and shortly before sun-down doing sun salutations as well as more advanced moves to remove any negativity her body harbors. ]

[Duo can be found wandering around the Spirit Wilds with a pencil and a newspaper in hand, scribbling bits of English onto the paper and occasionally going up to people to ask to get a bit of the text read to him.]

Hey, can you make out what that says?

[Man, he was glad the locals spoke English, even if they didn't write it. Couldn't be too hard to pick up the rest though, right?]
