[Open; Come one and all!]
[1]
While camping considerably close to City Hall to make sure they were around for all that gold snatching, Nabooru and her girls have started a contained campfire to ward off against the cold. They're mostly all sitting around chatting amongst themselves, laughing more often than not. One of them probably waves to you, beckoning you over with a sweet smile. Why not share the warmth? Nabooru herself seems to be dealing with another girl who is handing her a new winter cloak with their recognizable patterns down the back. For those that have ever traveled by desert or have come from the Earth Kingdom, they might be somewhat recognizable as the symbols of a well known band of thieves.
Getting close enough, Nabooru herself will take notice. "Go on and sit. The fire's free. The food isn't." They seemed to be cooking something that smelled decently pleasant.

On one of the nights the gold starts appearing at City Hall, Nabooru is ready to fly into action. With the ease of her thieving skills, she will manage to gather quite more than her fair share. She doesn't fight fair, either, using her bending abilities like nobody's business. If shifting a bunch of earth underneath someone to get an advantage is necessary, she will do it. And when she's settled on that her pockets are just full enough, she'll be taking off! Watching her back to make sure no one is following her, however, doesn't leave her eyes set so forward. A rookie mistake. Honestly, she's better than that. But eventually that is bound to get her in trouble, running right into another body, sending the gold filling her pockets clattering with a jaunty jingle straight to the ground. "Hey!" Because clearly, that was your fault, wasn't it?
[3]
The only thing Nabooru likes better than stealing is reading. She loves getting lost in fantasy worlds like no other. And so she's taken to visiting one of the ritzier book shops in the better part of town. Their books didn't have highlights and tons of earmarks or cracked spines. She wanted her books to be hers ... regardless of if they were cheesy romance novels or not. But as she's never gotten herself truly documented since skipping from the desert, on this particular trip she gets thrown out- but not before making a ton of noise. No one can deny her her books! ....but that's exactly what's happening.
((First and second are pretty self explanatory (though for the first if you want to recognize the Gerudo as the thieving band of possible murderers who once roamed the deserts outside the Earth Kingdom that's fine too!), the third you can catch her in the middle of fighting with the clerk about how ridiculous the ID thing is or right after she gets thrown out of the store and the doors shut in her face. Anything goes! All are welcome.))

" Ouch... s-sorry!"

Running into a big burly guy with a temper would have been easier, she thinks. So she dusts herself off before coming closer to offer Jin a hand up.]
It was my fault- wasn't looking where I was going. [Because the last thing she needed was people following her back to her makeshift home.]
no subject
In that case, I think we are both at fault, because I wasn't really paying attention myself. Thanks, miss.
[ When she was up on her feet again she started brushing off her outfit. ]
I hope I didn't stop you while you were in a hurry somewhere.

Just trying to blend in with the masses. [A small gesture to the shiny gold coins on the ground. Did this count as stealing? ...she wasn't quite sure. Either way, she didn't see ashamed of it.]
no subject
[ She didn't want to think that she just ran into a theif, though she knew that was certainly possible since she grew up in the lower ring of Ba Sing Se. She wanted to believe that she was turning this in maybe? Or even helping out others in need. ]

I'm sure these girls will appreciate your help.

Most of them can fend for themselves, but some just remain helpless forever. [Most of them were adults, after all. This is said with a grin regardless.]

It looks like they found themselves a good protector then.

What's your name?

I couldn't possibly! There are so many people around here without homes or anything. I have a roof over my head and a job too so I definitely dont want to take this from someone who needs it!

[ jin smiles warmly. ]
I'm really happy to meet someone like you.

If you ever need my help you can always come get me.

I don't see why not.

Alright. I think I'll do just that.

On your way. Spend that gold on something nice.

"Whoa! Sorry there, pal... I didn't watch where I was going!" He was walking at a normal speed at the very least. "Need a hand?" He glances down at the ground. Is that a lot of gold that spilled out of her pockets...?
no subject
"It's fine." A little more curtly than she knew she should be speaking. Especially considering the circumstances. "It wasn't you it was me." She was, after all, running.
no subject
He tried to remain good-natured, used to dealing with curt people. Although the more he looked at her, the more he could have sworn he heard something about women with hair like that.
no subject
"Even suits me just fine." She just had to be careful. To make it less like she was a criminal (though she'd fight on that, to her knowledge she wasn't stealing anyone's money specifically...). And to do that she had to appear... less dodgy. Which was hard. She smiled easily regardless. "You have a habit of walking the streets at night?" As if she were one to talk. But casual conversation could pull favor towards her.
no subject
"Actually, pal, it's kind of part of the job. I'm a police detective, and I guess you could say this is part of my beat tonight."
no subject
"You're not policing around City Hall, are you? Best to just let the mongrels sort it out amongst themselves." No, no. That was the absolute wrong thing to say. If he was a cop, he was likely out for the good of the people.
no subject
no subject
"I can agree with that." And she really could, too. "I think a lot of them are just family people trying to provide." Free gold was too hard to pass up for poor people. "Let's hope your boys can keep the peace."
no subject
"Don't you were! Republic City's best of the best are on it! I mean, a lot of the best of the best of the best might be missing... but the people who are on it are pretty darn good, pal! We'll do our best to make sure the money goes to those who need it!"
no subject
"You got a name, detective?"

The commotion draws her to the shop, just in time to see Nabooru getting kicked out of the shop. Korra steps closer with a frown.
"What's going on here?"
no subject
Her arms cross a little defiantly, but instead of looking completely angry, she's halfway between frustrated and disappointed. "Who knows now. I don't have whatever it is they want." Papers. Documentation. ID. All that good stuff. "So they won't sell to me." A rolling sigh comes out of her.
no subject
"I'll have a word with them. If they still won't sell to you after that, I'll look around with you while you pick out what you want. I can hand the money over to them when you're done."
This probably won't be putting her in the shopkeeper's good books (ha) but what they're doing isn't right. Just because these newcomers weren't originally citizens, doesn't mean they should be treated like this.
no subject
"You're sure you want to go to all that trouble?" She was never any good at accepting help but if it was being offered for something so small, turning it down would look just as silly.
no subject
"If they're refusing to let people buy books, that means other shop keepers might be refusing to let people buy food or water, or anything else they really need," she says flatly. "It's trouble, but it's better to say something now before it gets worse."

As she's wandering through the crisp night-time air, she sees one of the girls of Nabooru's crew waving at her with a beckoning gesture. Mia will come close but she'll still keep her distance; after all, the new circumstances in the city definitely makes her a little wary of strangers. "Thanks, but it's actually not too bad tonight. I've survived through much worse winters." And it's true, at least mostly; she's usually been inside to weather the storm however. And perhaps the slightly reddened cheeks will give away the fact that she is marginally cold a little bit.
no subject
"Oh, come on. It won't hurt anything to sit for a while." Smiling easily. If there was one thing she couldn't do, it was send a shivering girl away. Or let her go, for that matter. Nabooru had better ethics than that, at least she'd like to say so.
no subject
"I take it you all have been evicted from whatever place you were living in too," she says, making a daring presumption.
no subject
Mostly harmless looking. But that never meant anything. "We're drifters. We don't really live in one place specifically. Less to tie you down that way." But it's no good that the people in this city would throw out a girl. "How long have you been without a place to sleep?"
no subject
"I was tossed out yesterday, so just the one night," she tells Nabooru honestly. "To be entirely truthful, it's not the cold that bothers me but the lack of finding a place that I feel safe to shut my eyes. Especially with the sudden jump of everyone's nerves over all this gold. What's to stop some of them from thieving from the suddenly homeless foreigners in town?"
