[Closed to Jin] Backdated

[Once Korra and Jinora return from the South Pole, spirits a little dampened by their findings (no pun intended), Korra remembers that she has a certain promise to keep. Unfortunately, things get a little hectic as she reports the bad news--Katara and her parents all missing from the Southern Water Tribe, the presence of other barriers around the South Pole--though she'd spoken to Bumi over the radio already. It takes a few days for things to settle down again, and it's only then that Korra goes looking for Jin.

She hands the note ("Come by Air Temple in the next few days!") to Wan, hoping it'll reach the right hands. After that, all she can do is wait for Jin to find her way here.]

[Wan made a very good messenger bird, because once Jin got that letter she was zipping on off to Air temple island. It's not like she really had anything stopping her at all.

It took her a little bit to get from her home to the island but she made it and went on a search for Korra. ]

Now if I were a Korra where would I be?

[Right behind you, it seems! Korra watches Jin with a grin, just a few paces behind her. Though Jin may not have spoken to anyone since she started searching for Korra, the air acolytes had fetched the Avatar once they'd noticed she was apparently looking for someone.]

You could try the courtyard. I hear she practices there a lot.

[Somehow, she manages not to laugh.]

[ She jumped a little and turned around with a sheepish smile on her face, not realizing it was Korra at first. ]

Hey thanks! That'll be the first place I... KORRA!

[ Her eyes brighten immediately. ]

[Korra laughs, hands propped on her hips.]

Hey, Jin. Since you're here, I guess that means you got the message I left with Wan?

[ She tried to contain her excitement, but it was just too hard. She runs toward Korra with her arms wide. ]

I did! And when I got the message I rushed to get here as fast as I could!

[Jin is literally too cute for Korra to keep up the teasing (for now), so she just holds her arms out and catches the younger girl in a welcome hug.]

He got it to you really fast. [Admittedly, Korra's mood lifts at Jin's enthusiasm. It's hard to hold onto her worry when someone's excited to spend time with her.]

So, I was going to suggest checking out the match that's going on next week, but since you're already here, maybe we can try to make the one that's happening tonight. What do you think?

[ She hugs onto Korra with all of her might, which probably just feels like a pillow squishing her to Korra. She looks up at her. ]

Oh! That sounds like a good idea, and really exciting too. I haven't really wandered around too far in town still, but I can always see a beautiful glow coming from that side of town at night.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot. They used the arena for all those Nuktuk movers a little while back. I wasn't around for those, but I heard a lot of people liked them.

[Even if Mako likes to roll his eyes about it still sometimes.]

Maybe now that Varrick's back in the city, he'll try doing some more of those movers.... [Korra's eyes widen suddenly. Varrick had used those movers to get support for the Southern Water Tribe when the civil war was happening. What if he could use new movers to do the same for other things?]

Movers?... Oh that's right! A boy named Bolin told me about those. They seem really interesting.

They sounded interesting, that's for sure.

[Korra grins, thinking back on the day Varrick had shown her and Asami his plans for Bolin. She'd been skeptical then, especially with that outfit he was supposed to wear. But it sounds like it had turned out to be a huge success, despite everything.]

Kind of takes away from the story if you know your friend's an earthbender playing the part of a waterbender, I guess.

[ She can't help but laugh a little at that. ]

I guess it's all a part of pretending. It makes things more fun for everyone or something like that.

[ She finally lets go of Korra, but still stands close to her, already enjoying this good company. She paused for a moment when her words hit her]

Oh! Does that mean Bolin is your friend?

Yeah. He's pretty much the first person I met in Republic City. First friend I guess you could say.

[Her expression goes soft as she remembers how they met.]

I snuck into the probending arena one night because I wanted to see it in person, and I got caught. He helped me out, showed me around the place. And then I joined his team later.

[Korra laughs a little.] I don't think he saw that one coming, though.

Friendship finds a way to show up in the silliest of situations. And I should have guessed you guys were friends. You both are really sweet and fun to talk to!

[Korra laughs again, this time a mix of embarrassed and sheepish.] I don't think that's how it works, but... I won't deny Bolin's a great guy. One of the best people you can know.

[Now she spreads her hands out.]

So! The match isn't starting until later. What other part of the city do you want to see?

There is one place I love to visit, but I think you meant some place new I've never seen.

[ She laughs and folds her hands behind her back, rocking on her feet in a bouncy manner. ]

Hmm.. well what's your favorite place in the city?

I don't have a favorite place, but there's a few I like to go to.

[Part of her will always be drawn to the museum, with all of the relics that she had owned in her previous lives, but that's something she keeps to herself.]

We could go downtown, to the market area! There's a bunch of shops and food vendors from all of the nations.

[This she has no problem sharing, though. Growing up isolated in the compound means that the bustling market place is still one of the most interesting places around, in her opinion.]

Oh! That does sound like a good idea. And I can never really say no to having a little snack either.

Great! I'll tell one of the acolytes I'm heading out.

Oh-- [Korra pauses, curiosity making her ask.]

What was that place you were talking about before, the one you like to visit?

Hmm? Oh! I really like to hang out at the fountains in the park. They bring me warm feelings about home.

[ She laughed and looked a little embarrassed. ]

See back home there was this one spot that was the most beautiful place in all of Ba Sing Se, at least to me it was and at night it was even better. It was a fountain surrounded by lanterns and at night when they would light up the lanterns the whole area would just glow this beautiful sparkly way. It was kind of like my special spot.

[Korra nods distractedly, waving down an acolyte to pass on her message. After that, she's right at Jin's side again.]

Lanterns, huh? I don't think the fountains have any there now, but we could always find some in the market and hang them up around the place.

We've got a lot of time to kill, and we could light up the place right before we head to the pro-bending arena.

[ Her eyes lit up with the idea. She had been feeling really homesick, and something like that was sure to make things feel more familiar. ]

Korra, has anyone ever told you how sweet you are?

[She pauses, flustered for a moment.]

Me? Uh, not really. I don't think "sweet" would be the first word that comes to mind when people describe me anyway.

Well it should be more often. You've already gone out of you way to make me feel at home. if that doesn't say someone is sweet I don't know what does.

[ She gives Korra a big warm smile ]

[Don't mind her, she's just going to shift on her feet a little.]

Well.. I guess I don't mind, if it means you're feeling better about moving to the city.

[She clears her throat, turning in the direction of the docks, and (not so) expertly changing the subject.]

Anyway, we should head out.

Alright! Sounds like a good idea to me.

[ She quickly grabs Korra's hand and began tugging her toward the docks. ]

[Korra looks down at their linked hands in surprise, but keeps up with Jin while they walk.]

So... how has everything been in the city? I've been hearing some of it from the air acolytes.

[ Hopefully Korra doesn't mind as their arms girlishly swing as well. It's sort of a habit of hers. ]

It's been a little... strained? I think a lot of citizens are just really confused and it makes them scared.

[More accurate words have never been spoken.

Korra nods, expression a little worried.]

They're lashing out and blaming people they think are "outsiders", but that's just making everything worse.

You and Wan haven't run into any trouble, have you?

I've run into a few places where they weren't too thrilled to have me around, but it's okay. I don't hold grudges.

[Korra stops, using Jin's hold on her hand to slow her down, too.]

It's not okay. The people of Republic City shouldn't be treating you and Wan any differently than everyone else.

Promise me you'll say something if it gets really bad?

I don't want to cause any trouble for anyone. Especially not you.

You're not causing trouble, Jin. It's the people who're doing this that are.

[Korra sighs, looking away.]

Look, there's...another reason. I'll tell you after the probending match, okay?

[She hadn't wanted to spill the beans so soon in their friendship, but if it'll convince Jin to say something when there's trouble, then there's no choice.]

Huh? Oh um... okay.

[ She frowned a little and tilted her head to look at Kora better. ]

Hey... Korra? Is something wrong?
