It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

I've never really heard what an Airbender is but I'm sure you're really good. I mean, you kept me from hitting the ground hard.

Airbenders really aren't that common anymore but most people have heard of them. Master Tenzin and his children are all airbenders. Do you know about them?

[Henry just casually shakes his head, still looking pretty clueless.]

No, I've never heard about them. I'm actually not really from around here.

... You mean the city or the land in general?

Um...your...world actually?

[Please don't think he's cray cray. He doesn't need that right now.]

[She's just getting this straight, okay.]

Yeah, exactly. You don't think I'm crazy, do you?

[Look at this innocent face, Opal. It's to precious to be crazy.]

[The teenager pauses. Her words are careful.]

I wouldn't say crazy. Confused maybe but crazy is a harsh label for anyone.

[A beat, then:]

Why don't you tell me what you know so far?

[Oh good, she's a cool person. He was afraid he'd meet people who wouldn't believe him.]

I'm not really sure what I can tell you. I was just with my family and then I was here. I know this place is called Republic City from overhearing some people, but that's it.

[airyopalescent]

[Her expression slackens at that. So his family wasn't here then?]

I'm sorry to hear that, it must be confusing for you.

[Confused or not, the least she can do is catch the boy up to speed. Looking around, she spots a roadside stand selling chiefly things that are easy to walk and eat - vegetable wraps, dumplings, those sorts of things. So with a grin, she looks back to him.]

How about having lunch with me and I'll try to explain what I can. I'm Opal Beifong, what's your name?

It's not exactly a great feeling, no.

[The only thing confusing was how he got here. His family not being here is not entirely new concept when he ends up randomly kidnapped.

The offer food though is not one he's going to pass up. It feels like hours since he last ate. HOURS!

He returns the smile with a grateful look.]

That'd be great! Thank you and my name's Henry, it's good to meet you.

[Little does he know he's in for a vegetarian meal, the horror.]

[That settled, lunch is procured first hopefully without Harry dying in the process of touching vegetables and then a spot is found outside of the crowds to eat at. There are enough benches and the like around for that much.

Opal's yearning for kale will at least be satisfied on this day.]

So... hm. Where should I start.

[As long as these produce like items aren't magically poisoned or apples, he should be fine.]

The start usually is the best place. Like, what is this place? Or how come there's all these sparkling animals floating around?

[Because this is the chance to learn about another land other than the Enchanted Forest. Who wouldn't want to know everything that he could?]

[Broad questions to begin with but she can work with them. Alright then.

First the young woman explains the sparkling animals, identifying them as spirits and going over the concept of the Spirit World.

She breaks there to eat, letting Henry digest the idea. Then she goes over where this is, starting from Republic City and then further about the four groups - the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, the Water Tribes and finally the Air Nomads. And she pauses there to ask:]

It's a lot to take in. Does it make sense so far though?

[It sounded to him that the spirit world was some kind of heaven. He remains quiet at the thought of people actually being able to visit spirits. If that was the case it must've been less painful to lose someone in this world if they could just go visit the spirit world.

He manages to pull his thoughts away from that though because it's still a bit painful. Focusing back on Opal, he listens to the whole explanation about the geography of the world.]

Yeah, I think I understand it. Maybe once I find a few books that I can read I'll be able to get the rest for myself.

I thrieve on sadness. Sometimes.

You're in luck. The city has a really great library actually. I haven't been there very often myself but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

I didn't know Opal thrived on human suffering.

Maybe there will be some books in english!

[After all, it's a library. There has to be loads of books filled with different languages in it.]

SHHHH don't tell everyone. Her sweetness is a great disguise. >:3

English? ... Maybe. It is a big library.

[When lunch is over, she'll lead Henry to the library next. And just by the outside of it, it really is an impressive looking library.]

only if she doesn't feed on his suffering.

[Yeah, this is definitely very impressive. His eyes are just alight with glee looking upon it.]

It's even bigger than Storybrooke's.

[Oh, but the thought only now just comes to mind.]

[After all, he only realized that the girl might've been busy before meeting him. It's only fair that he let her go about her business rather than look after him.]

[Opal can't help but hesitate at that. It seems wrong to leave a kid by itself like this in an unfamiliar place. She likewise doesn't want to hover because... well, she did just meet him and he isn't precisely asking for help.

After a brief conflict of emotions, she settles on a medium spot.]

I'll leave you here then, only if you promise me that if you need help you'll come to Air Temple Island. Even if you can't find me, someone there will help you. Is it a deal?

Yeah, that seems pretty fair to me.

[At least she's not asking for his first born child.

He'll just hold his hand out to her as a sign of a deal well struck.]

I'll be sure to come by as soon as I'm done.

[And she'll accept the hand gratefully.]
