Welcome to Republic City!

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

Oh thank goodness. Opal breathes out an audible sigh of relief. The part about his friend though... she looks like she's trying to decide if he's not just babbling here.

"Only one person can bend all four elements... ah, at least here anyhow. That's the Avatar."
raavashing: (smile: I can hear those echoes)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-10-10 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wan gave a quick glance around before waving her away from the group so they could talk in relative privacy.]

Well, like I was saying, I can't really get the medicine these people need without buying it. But that means I also can't afford much food for them. And I know you don't care about the rules the city has about stealing... so I was just thinking that when I go to get the medicine, you could come with me and we could find a warehouse to liberate some basic foods from for them, too. Hard bread rolls, fruits, things that will keep for a few days.
raavashing: (smile: Til I see you again)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-10-10 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Wan shrugged, "I can just tell people myself if they want to learn. Besides, making flyers would cost a lot of money, right? I don't have any."

[personal profile] airyopalescent 2014-10-10 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome to at any time really. Tenzin isn't there at the moment but I don't think Jinora would mind. You could even join us during our meditation hour.

[Because doesn't that sound swell, Bolin? Sitting, not talking, just breathing and thinking for a full hour?

That said, Opal gives her shoulders a gentle shrug and then laughs.]

I actually didn't have a plan, believe it or not. It's just nice to rest a little. I may bring back some supplies before I go back but until then... well, I'm free!

[Still as much as she might like aimless wandering, it might help him if they had a destination. His nerves are almost palpable and even if she thinks it's cute, it would likely be for the best to have some kind of plan.

So Opal sidles over in the next moment, lays hold of his hand with all the casualness she can muster, and just as casually adds:]

You said you're from Republic City, right? So you must know where everything in town is. Why don't we go sight-seeing a little? Believe it or not, I still haven't seen Lord Zuko's statue.

So... this guy really doesn't know what a dog is? It's not like they're all that rare. He's seen dogs in Ba Sing Se all the time.

Repede does a series of growls and barks. Not at all aggressive. Just Repede's way of talking.

"Repede is Repede," Yuri replies.
wolfstrike: (you don't say)

[personal profile] wolfstrike 2014-10-10 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's... some interesting logic you've got there Lloyd. But hey, Yuri won't judge. He can't claim to be a math whiz himself. School was never a fun thing for him.

At the question though, Yuri puts a hand to his chin in thought.

"Huh."

A traveler? Well, he hadn't been back in Ba Sing Se, but he did travel here, didn't he?

"Yeah, I guess I am."

Iroh's always spoken highly of Bumi's leadership abilities. If he can be convinced out of retirement, he'd be an enormous help.

[Then again, he might want to focus his attention on helping support Jinora and the other airbenders, now that Tenzin isn't there. He'll have to speak with him later, if he can track down his whereabouts... A trip to Air Temple Island might be in order.

The stern, businesslike tone softens, though, as he decides to ask something more personal.]

...Have you met with Korra, yet?

Wait.

Okay, going to absorb this for a minute.

. . .

Nope, still didn't make sense.

"Okay, we're not supposed to travel to the future. Or the past. Or the Spirit World. Or wherever else. That's Avatar stuff. Mystical, spiritual blahblahblah. Not us." Her jaw tightened. "We're supposed to be off to fight the Fire Lord right now. How can we be in the future if we haven't even fought--"

But she cut herself off, pressing her lips together. There wasn't exactly a point in debating it. There had been no change in Zuko's hearbeat, no alteration of his rhythm. He was telling the truth -- or at least absolutely believed that he was -- and more than that, she'd given him trust a long time ago. If he said they were in the future, they were probably in the future . . . and nothing that she thought about it was going to change that.

She frowned faintly, turning the mask around in her hands, as much for the solidity of the object and the movement as anything else. More softly, "What are we supposed to do? And what happens if we don't get home?"

Not usual questions from Toph, and certainly not a usual tone . . . but also not a usual situation.

Judar folded his arms behind his head as they walked. The next time he had to travel anywhere, someone was driving him in a Satomobile. The decision had been made. Really, he wished he could just fly wherever he needed to go, but he'd ended up a firebender, so that simply wasn't to be.

"Or maybe we could get rid of all of the philosophers, too. It's not like they're doing anybody any good."

[Not rural! Just so used to the shit he pulls that it's less trouble to just let him get away with it, and his dad's a high-ranking official so no one really has the guts to tell him otherwise. Well, until his dad cut him off, anyway.

He's already had a run-in or two with the Republic City police over the damn thing. That's why he's started wrapping it. As if that fixes the problem.]

Some of the newcomers carry swords. [He shrugs. A sword is not a spear, Nezha.]

It doesn't have to be people. There might be portal beans somewhere in this world.

[And yes, he did say beans.]

Or maybe there's a mirror that acts as one, but, you're right. We'll have to find someone here who knows about them.

Yeah, you know, the sport! [ Rather than telling her, she shows her. With her palm out face-up, a small flame appears, flicking for only a few seconds before she closes her first. ]

[Yeah, this is definitely very impressive. His eyes are just alight with glee looking upon it.]

It's even bigger than Storybrooke's.

[Oh, but the thought only now just comes to mind.]

Thanks for bringing me here, but, if you need to get going somewhere else I should be fine here by myself.

[After all, he only realized that the girl might've been busy before meeting him. It's only fair that he let her go about her business rather than look after him.]

[Henry can just feel his arm going the highest it can before dropping right to the lowest point it can get to with each shake. If people were seeing this the motions looked like a worm wriggling about wildly.

Henry can't help but laugh a bit to those words.]

You're certainly the first monk I've ever talked to at least. I don't get to see a lot where I'm from.

If I don't make it on the team? Consider me your number one fan. There's not a chance I'm missing a game!

[ She has enough sense to take it as it means it, but it doesn't mean a girl can't dream a little. ] Oh, yeah. I'm pretty new, as like... pretty fresh off the boat new.

[ At least a few days in she was already making some headway on the job front. And at least one step closer to fulfilling her dream. ] I'd say Pro-Bending is why I moved, but I'd be lying. I planned on moving eventually,-- little island life really isn't my thing. [ She gives a half-hearted shrug. ] But she's an air bender now and I'm such a great big sister that we both decided coming here was best for both of us.

[ Yes, that makes her the chaperone. She gets to handle the working, the money, paying rent... But when it comes down to it, she doesn't mind. She would do almost anything for her little sister. ]

That's the thing, true love can transcend all realms. Where I was from never had magic, but, I was saved in the end because that's how true love works. It just depends on the situation.

Then the first thing they needed to do was take this barrier down if they wanted to find answers. "Maybe we should ask that avatar person to help with this than. Someone else mentioned her and if she's that powerful she might be able to break it." After all, that's what saviours/heroes do. They break evil spells and barriers.

It puts a smile to his face when Zuko does say that they would make sure he wouldn't be left on his own. Since handshakes seem to be the obvious foreign thing in this world, Henry tries to mimic the bow gesture Lord Zuko gave earlier. Too bad, his he's clutching both hands together. "Thanks, Lord Zuko and I'll try and do what I can to help figure out how to take this barrier down."

Maybe someday they'll add airbenders in. [ Okay so fighting like that might not be strictly airbendery but then again it was only a game... and airbenders loved games. She can't help but laugh at the image of her dad, either. ]

We'll have to make him join a team, too. [ And then that image makes her laugh as well. ]

I guess that does sound like kind of a hard list. But I'm sure a great waterbender will show up to your try-outs.

It is. [ Jinora can't help but agree. ] A lot's been changing... did you mean something specific?

"There are a lot of spirits in the city." Jinora sounds pretty happy about that, though, and no amount of vines will ever completely dissuade her from that feeling. Watching Lloyd and the fuzzball spirit only makes her happier.

"See, it likes you! You don't have to do anything special. Just be nice to it." She insists. No summoning needed! The question only trips her up a little; she makes a slight humming noise before answering.

"Well... spirits are like people. Most of them are really friendly, but some just want to be left alone." Dark spirits, spirits that had been betrayed by humans before; even with all of them she'd only met on truly evil spirit. "A lot of them have never seen the city before, either, so they end up accidentally causing some trouble. But they don't really mean it."

Woah!

[ Mula pushing against her is unexpected, but Jinora laughs as she staggers a little before moving both hands to pet her, now. She would be totally down for some belly rubbing. ]

You are adorable. [ She feels the need to say before continuing her petting, moving one hand to her upper back and the other to the front of her stomach. ]

[ She looks a little unsure, although she's not completely disbelieving. ]

If you've been able to read about them, why don't we have any books on them here? [ Plus, if there were all these other worlds out there someone would have to know. The White Lotus, or the Gurus, or- ]

The Avatar would know if there were other worlds around, I think.

"It feels like it, at least a little." Jinora affirms, nodding. "Lord Zuko thinks it is, too. It feels spiritual, and I can't get past it like I did to find Kai and Korra before..." Which is pretty frustrating, really. If she could just see outside it might at least make her feel a little better if everyone looked like they were okay out there.

"I'm not sure why any spirit would want to keep people inside the city like this." She's not really sure of much about the situation, actually.

[ And Jinora will gleefully return the hug, because Grandpa Aang. Hugging her. This was one of the coolest things ever. ]

Yes! There's me, my sister, Ikki, my brother Meelo, and my brother Rohan. Oh, you should meet Rohan too, but he's just a baby so he might not appreciate it as much as we would.

[ At the question of her age and mention of her title she suddenly looks a little nervous, rubbing her newly tattooed arm self-consciously. ] I'm eleven. Is... is that okay?

[ Because he had been so young when he got his tattoos, and here she was with them and she was so young and he'd never even met her before today. ]
truestheart: (hmmm)

[personal profile] truestheart 2014-10-11 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He's already got an answer for that, Jinora. He just has to pause to think of how to put it.]

Well, the book I have is kind of special. It just sort of got made to tell me how to stop something really bad that happened where I'm from. See, look.

[And he pulls the book of fairy tales from his bag. Already it probably looks rather odd with the letters on the cover.

However, there is some recognition on Henry's face when Jinora mentions the 'Avatar'.]

Someone did tell me they probably would know something about this actually. I'm was actually trying to look for her.
