Welcome to Republic City!
It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.
The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."
Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.
Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.
[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

Some people were just randomly showing up, the barrier was not going unnoticed and certain important figures of the city were missing. Coming to the police department for answers and solutions was the expected response. Mako could be seen in full uniform within the building. At his desk, filing reports in Lin's office, and helping answering the phones in case one was an immediate emergency.
2 - Break Time
Even a cop deserved a break during all the goings on in Republic City. Not that the detective wanted to take one, but he had to eat some time. A push cart merchant was selling dim sum and he purchased some with the full intent of getting right back on his parked motorcycle. Work was practically Mako's life and right now the police force needed him more than ever. That was how he saw it anyway.
Of course, he's also there to serve and protect. That included answering questions to the best of his knowledge.
C - Detective Duty
Yes, Bumi. DUTY.Having looked through the reports street cops have been filling out, both of known criminals, suspects, and new arrivals through the vines; Mako decided to get back on the beat and look for any suspicious activity. Whether he was on a motorcycle, slowing down as he passed by someone that caught his eye or slowly tailing someone through the crowd; Mako was keeping a sharp eye on certain people.
Maybe they had answers, maybe they didn't. But he's too shrewd to simply let it go.
4 - Wildcard
Make up a thing, Mako could be anywhere in the city thanks to his job as a detective, his past as a pro-bending athlete, and former member of the Triple Threat Triad. And let's not forget him being a former prisoner.
*cough*VARRICK*cough*C
C or 3 or penguin seels
Look, you don't have to do this! Besides, I don't have anything you'd want!
Penguin seels ahoy
Hey! [He swiftly gets off his bike and takes off his helmet. Teen gang members never show much respect to cops, but Mako’s had more than enough experience handling the triads.] I said HEY!
[He puts himself firmly between Henry and the trio, folding his arms while giving an annoyed look.]
Get lost before I take you down to the precinct.
I'll let you decide how fast this goes. Since the best Henry can do is kick shins
I'm not sure they're going to-
[And he's right, immediately cut off when one of the teens just bends some water from under their coat and launches a frozen block straight for Mako's head.]

The last one however decides to make a break around Mako and go straight for Henry’s bag and turns up a chunk of pavement to hit Mako with.]
I said
[The cement collides into his shoulder and he gives a rolling kick as he whirls from the impact. Just as the teen’s got his hands on Henry’s bag, the shot of flame hit his knee and forces him down to clutch the burn.]
get lost.
[Sighing while rubbing his shoulder, Mako knows they’re going to be more paperwork than they’re worth. But he looks over to Henry.]
You okay?
no subject
his book should allow for a nice solid hitBut, nope. That's not happening with his bag is now getting pried from his hands. The police cop is all over that one when the thief just drops over in pain.
Henry's eyes trail between the injured thieves, to the cop, back to the thieves and then the cop.
As scary as he thought fire was before when Lord Zuko showed him, this has given him a new insight and that is:]
Are you like, fire bending Batman or something? That was awesome!
[Oh right, he's being asked something.]
Oh, yeah I'm fine. They didn't get the chance to do anything.
no subject
A batman. [Not even a question because what kind of animal myth is that? WHAT EVEN...]
You shouldn't walk in Agni Kai territory alone. Where are your parents?

Lord Zuko. [He bows, hand in fist.] I didn’t know you were arriving, sir. But we are working on locating Chief Beifong.
no subject
In the meantime, will the department function without her? Republic City has some very real issues on its hands, and I fear panic will break out if it is not dealt with decisively.
no subject
[That one time Mako sneezed fire and dog piled on the policeman is a bygone, surely.
Mako doesn't break a beat in explaining the situation, not when addressing Lord Zuko formally.]
Currently, I'm attempting to organize the detective branch to investigate the barrier. Is there something similar happening at the Fire Nation?
[He can't hide his surprise at the former Fire Lord being in the city of all places. But then again, last Mako saw him, he was leaving to protect his daughter from any potential Red Lotus assassination.]
no subject
If it will save you the manpower, you don't have to. I already investigated the entire perimeter by both land and air, and Jinora tried using her spiritual projections, to no success. If not even an airbending master or my dragon can find a weak point, I doubt your detectives will have much more luck.
As for the Fire Nation... I haven't been able to establish any form of contact. We're completely cut off. [Probably the barrier's doing as well, he's guessing. If not a very conveniently-timed act of sabotage.]
no subject
Thank you, sir. We can focus on the vines and reports of people appearing instead then.
[Mako gestures out his arm from behind his back, offering to take the discussion inside if he wants.]
Any attempts to contact the Water Tribe or the Earth Kingdom have failed as well. Right now, there are some that are suffering from trade routes being blocked off and Tenzin isn't available for any counsel on the matter.
[He lets out a firm exhale through his nose.]
It's not the best situation, but I'm glad you're here. [Someone with leadership experience is something the city desperately needs and he's seeing all of it first hand thanks to his position.]

2/B or not 2, B?
Right now... this monk is looking over all a types of vegetarian dim sum like he's appraising them. The beleaguered runner of the shop is just sighing as he shuffles to fill his requests.]
Caaan I see those other vegetarian options you mentioned? Maybe that's what I'm hungry for! [He flashes his innocent smile.]
Hat is the question.
That’s…strange.
It doesn’t take much detective work to figure out who it is, the vegetarian preferences a dead giveaway.]
Hey, Jinora.
no subject
Huh? Jinora's here?
no subject
Mako croaks out a weak 'uhh..']
No. Guess not. Sorry, wrong airbender. I thought- you know. The tattoos.
[But the tattoos...
He gives the small monk a studious look.]
no subject
Right. The tattoos. Guess there aren't many of them going around!
no subject
In fact, only two people should have them. [If it's some kind of paint, it's very convincing. But...] Does anyone at Air Temple Island know you're here?
[What is he, twelve?]

"Ohhh! That's the first one of those I've seen!" Ty Lee exclaimed, running up to Mako without so much as a hello. "What's it called?
no subject
"Uh- it’s a police motorcycle." He gave her a slightly confused look. How didn’t she know that, especially with him wearing a police uniform of all things. "This your first time in Republic City?" He couldn’t help feeling sympathetic if it was. Korra was and the same, and if he was honest with himself, Mako would admit she was rather cute.
But he lied to himself fairly often simply to stay focused.

"It is, the vines brought me-- At least, I think it was the vines," she half shrugs in response. "This place is so big, but I like it here!"
Ty Lee slipped easily back to the original topic at hand. "Can I tough it?"
no subject
He contemplated the question, looking from her to the motorcycle. It was police property, but at the same time he didn’t want to seem unfriendly. A good portion of the new people’s impressions came from the police presence, and he did have an obligation to keep an eye out for them.
"Uh, sure. Go ahead. Just don’t turn on the lights." Thankfully, he had the keys in his pocket.

Excited by the new piece of technology, she runs her hands along various parts of the bike, occasionally crouching down to look at the wheels or mechanical parts. "They just don't have things like this back home, it's so small! I've been in plenty of tanks before and well, let's just say those aren't exactly little."
After a full inspection, she stands up again to grin at it's owner. "I bet you look super dreamy on it." She bats her eyelashes as few times, putting on the charm. "Oh, yeah! How silly of me, I'm Ty Lee, by the way! It's really nice to meet you."
