Welcome to Republic City!
It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.
The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."
Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.
Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

"They're spirit vines. With the spirit portals open the spirits have been trying to find places to live, so they brought the wilds with them." Her smile fades a little- what if they were covering his apartment, or something?
"Have you not been here for a while?" She questions, hoping he hadn't just come back from an extended vacation to find his house taken over by vines and spirits.
no subject
But she wasn't. Instead, this kid was, and even if he dressed a little funny and had an odd tattoo on his head, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Lloyd would gladly take whatever help he could give.

"Oh. Yeah, I don't think most of the rest of the world had much of a... drastic change." Sure the spirits were everywhere, not just Republic City, but this was the only place she knew of that had vines as big as these taking over as many buildings as they had. As for the question, she gives him a confused look.
"Summon Spirits? Well, if they're friendly and they like you they'll probably come up to you if you call out to them." Yeah she's a little off, here.
no subject
Ironically, as he says that, a little fuzzball spirit floats just over his head. No, it hasn't connected with him yet just what a lot of the local creatures around here are.
no subject
"Summoner? You don't have to be anything special to try to talk to a spirit." Sure, having a spiritual connection helped a lot, but since the portals were opened it was hard to not see a spirit around the city.
In fact, there was on right now! Jinora looks up at the fuzzball spirit excitedly, gesturing so Lloyd will notice it.
"See? This one came over here on it's own. You can try talking to it, if you want."
no subject
Eyeing the fuzzball now, he flounders for a moment at the suggestion to talk. What do you even say to a Summon Spirit when you're not trying to make a pact with it to help save the world? "Er... hi?"
In response, the fuzzball changes directions, circling above his head. It makes a noise like a soft, soft chitter. Lloyd blinks.
"I don't understand what it said."
no subject
Spirits and people living together was still a situation that everyone was trying to get used to, after all. At the chittinering noise she looks from the fuzzball back to Lloyd thoughtfully.
"Hmm... I think maybe it's trying to say 'hi,' back."
no subject
Tentatively, he reaches a gloved hand up to touch the fuzzball dancing over his head. To his delight, the fuzzball not only tolerates the touch, it willingly settles into his hand. His face lights up in wonder.
"Hey, you're really friendly!" He lowers his hand, still holding the spirit gently even as he turns a grin on Jinora. "Are all the spirits here as friendly as this?"
no subject
"See, it likes you! You don't have to do anything special. Just be nice to it." She insists. No summoning needed! The question only trips her up a little; she makes a slight humming noise before answering.
"Well... spirits are like people. Most of them are really friendly, but some just want to be left alone." Dark spirits, spirits that had been betrayed by humans before; even with all of them she'd only met on truly evil spirit. "A lot of them have never seen the city before, either, so they end up accidentally causing some trouble. But they don't really mean it."
no subject
While he considers that, the fuzzball in his hands apparently decides it's been friendly enough for one day. It floats up and bobs up and down a couple of times before continuing on its way. Lloyd watches it go, a smile still tugging on his face. That was kind of a neat experience.
"So what happens when there is a problem? Is there someone who can talk to the spirits and find out what's going on?"
no subject
"I'm sure you'll see it again. Or another spirit. They're kind of all over the place." She sounds unabashedly happy about that fact. At the question, she nods enthusiastically.
"The Avatar acts as the bridge between the mortal and spirit worlds. Or... used to be." Korra said she wasn't going to really be the bridge anymore, but the city and world still looked to her whenever there were any spirit problems. Plus, she hadn't really been up to doing much of that lately... until her reappearance just now.
't takes a moment to really think about the question though, but then she gives him an odd look.
"You... don't know about the Avatar?"
no subject
"I've only ever met one Summoner before," he offers. "Although my teacher could talk to spirits even Sheena couldn't, so I guess maybe you could count her, too?" He's not sure it really works like that, but it's probably close enough for the purposes of what they're talking about. An Avatar can't be that much different, right? At least, that's what it sounds like to him.
no subject
"I've never heard of any Summoners other than the ones you're talking about." She admits, thinking. He'd mentioned something about them having to do with spirits but she'd never read or heard anything about them in all her talks with spirits before.
"But you should know about the Avatar. Everyone knows about her." Ten-thousand years of history did that to a world. "Where exactly are you from?"
no subject
His cheeks flush just a little when Jinora points out this is something he should know. It's hardly the first time he's been ignorant of something people claim is common knowledge, but it's still always a little embarrassing when it happens. "I'm from Iselia," he admits. "It's... pretty small. Maybe we've just never heard of her there. Or maybe everyone just focused more on Colette, since she was the Chosen of Sylvarant."
no subject
"No. I've always had a connection with the spirits, but I've never been called a summoner or anything. I can't just make them appear." Since she can only assume that's what "summoner" meant, after all. As for the rest of what he's talking about, her eyebrows furrow and she gives him a strange look.
Iselia? Sylvarant? Chosen?
"Chosen of what?" She asks, confused. "I've never heard of either of those places, but everyone in the whole world knows about the Avatar. Is it a hidden city?" Because THAT sounded exciting.
no subject
He blinks at her question, though, then blinks again at her guess that his home town is hidden. He quickly shakes his head. "Iselia's not hidden. There's just not many people who go there." Zelos would call it backwater, but Lloyd's not about to insult his own home like that. He's more inclined to blame the town's size and lack of visitors on the fact that they'd been right next to a Human Ranch.
Then he adds to clarify, "The Chosen of Regeneration." Like that should be enough to explain.
