Welcome to Republic City!

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

And scare all the Bolins?

[Well, if Bolin had been expecting anything, he hadn't expected that. This guy had surprised him just a little bit with a big pointy spear out of nowhere... and, who honestly would do that? So the boy's confusion at the question was... completely unexpected.]

You mean you're not with the triads? [He pauses to ponder it, and then gives up pretty quickly.] So... then why are you carrying a spear like that around the town?

[Don't you know that nobody does that here?]

Apparently!

[No one really seemed to bat an eyelash at it back in his hometown. Then again, people back in his hometown had pretty much given up telling him to stop doing things.

Well, with the wrapping he'd used to cover the blade now ashes, Nezha removes the silken sash that had been tied around his waist and wrapped it around the head instead.]

I carry it because it's mine. [As if that explains everything.]

[Well, the guy clearly isn't trying to threaten his life or anything, so Bolin calms down... a little bit. This guy definitely must be new to Republic City... or possibly from some rural town in the Fire Nation maybe?]

Well you should be careful with that. No one really carries weapons around in the city, and if he police catch you with that, well... the chief of police Lin isn't known for being super lenient. [Even if she finally is more of a softie now.] I mean, you don't want them thinking you're going to go around killing everyone with that.

[Bolin certainly hopes he's not going to bring it to the tryouts either.]

[Not rural! Just so used to the shit he pulls that it's less trouble to just let him get away with it, and his dad's a high-ranking official so no one really has the guts to tell him otherwise. Well, until his dad cut him off, anyway.

He's already had a run-in or two with the Republic City police over the damn thing. That's why he's started wrapping it. As if that fixes the problem.]

Some of the newcomers carry swords. [He shrugs. A sword is not a spear, Nezha.]

But they don't pull them out in public! [Bolin shakes his head and puts a hand on his shoulder.] Look, people may have carried weapons around publicly, oh, maybe sixty or so years ago, but these are modern times! It's not really common for us to do that. Well, unless you're with the police or the military. It might just be best to leave that at home so long as you're in the city. You wouldn't want the police to get the wrong idea after all. I hear jail isn't all that fun a place to be.

[Nezha stares at him as if this is genuinely news to him. Apparently "common sense" is a relative term. He looks from Bolin to the spear in his hand, then back to the earthbender and quirks his head with a grin.]

Sure. I'll leave it at home if that'll get me a shot at a spot on the team. [It's really been causing him all sorts of problems anyway. He loves the thing, but dodging the police is getting tiresome.]
lavamylife: (confident)

OOC: I am going to get that topic started tonight or tomorrow

[personal profile] lavamylife 2014-10-17 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Bolin at least seems more or less satisfied by that at the last.] Of coooourse, it'll certainly give you a shot! You can't have a shot if you're stuck in the slammer!

Though good luck next week though; I'm certainly not going to pull any punches at the tryouts.
