Welcome to Republic City!

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

He'd just wanted a break, just a measly little cigarette break to get away from all these people, which is why he'd come down to the patch of spirit wilds in order to have a smoke and enjoy his meat buns in peace. With so many spirits floating around the vines and the buildings uninhabitable for people, it's usually rather quiet. Go figure today that wouldn't be the case.

Albert runs a hand over his face, sighs, then finally turns his attention to the boy who'd asked the question. Despite his irritation, he explains in an even tone, neutral as he can be. "The spirit world happened. The Avatar left the spirit portals open and now this whole neighborhood is for them to live in."

He motions to the various incorporeal fauna floating around and through the vines. Frankly, it doesn't bother him any other than making some of his truck routes longer, but she could have at least asked people about it rather than just making decisions for the entire world willy nilly. But she's the Avatar so maybe that trumps average people or gives her some special insight. Who knows.

That only makes about half as much sense as it should, but there's enough to it, pieces almost familiar enough for Lloyd to grasp, to give him enough that he can try to put them together to make sense. His brow furrows as he does so, because there are parts he still just doesn't get, but...

Spirits. Portals. Spirit world - and why wouldn't there be a world for Summon Spirits? They had to come from somewhere, right?

"Someone opened a portal and kept it open? Doesn't that take a lot of energy?" The old guy answered one of his questions already. It can't hurt to see if he'll keep talking.

"I think it's more like a door. You open it or you close it and that part takes energy but sitting open or closed is just what it is." He leans back on the vine he's sitting on, setting aside his lunch since apparently this kid is going to keep talking to him.

"But I don't know for sure, I'm not the Avatar, I just make deliveries."

That... Actually, in that light, that makes more sense than Lloyd thought it would. "Huh. I didn't think about it like that." A beat. "But is leaving it open a good thing?" His tone is curious, somewhat unsure. He just doesn't know enough about the spirit world to know if it's supposed to be separate from the world they're in, or if it's like Tethe'alla and Sylvarant - two worlds that should have been combined.

"Who is the Avatar?" he asks. "I keep hearing people talk about them, but I've never heard of that before."

"I dunno, the Avatar seems to think it's a good idea. I'm still not sold on it considering I had to find a new apartment." He jerks his thumb at the tenements with the vines crawling throughout. It had been some time ago now, but having to move was a big pain, especially since he couldn't get some of his furniture out thanks to the vines choking the exits and so still just had a bedroll on his floor instead of a proper bed.

"Oh, the Avatar? Well, they're the bridge between our world and the spirit world, so she's supposedly more knowledgeable about this stuff and can make decisions for the rest of us." He doesn't sound all that enthused, but it's not really like he would have known what to do either.

Lloyd takes a moment to mull that over, trying to sort out the unfamiliar phrases and match them up with what he knows. "So the Avatar's like a Summoner, then. She can talk to Spirits and work with them." Assuming they're willing to work with her. Volt definitely hadn't wanted to work with Sheena at first.

"So, all this..." He gestures around. "This is all because of the Spirits? Can't the Avatar do something about it? If she brought them here, shouldn't she be able to ask them to live somewhere else? Somewhere that doesn't already have someone living there?"
