cyclicality | Welcome to Republic City!

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ Unfortunately the one who bumps into her is someone completely confused about everything here. She was just admiring how fancy everything looked and smelling all the delicious smells when she spaced off and bumped right into Ruby. ]

Oh! I'm so sorry! That was completely my fault!

Ah! No, really! I should have been looking where I was going, and... [She's bowing her head apologetically at this point, slightly nervous.] I'm sorry, too!

No no, honestly I should have been looking where I was going. I just got myself a little distracted.

[ And at this point her stomach decided to make itself known with a grumble. ]

Aaaand a little hungry.

Oh! [She's immediately sliding her pack around her shoulder, reaching into it, and-- tada! Looks like there is a gingerly wrapped sweet bread in there!] Here. I know we're kind of tossing blame between the two of us, so as my apology, you can have this! I just bought it not too long ago, so it should still be warm...

Wait you mean... I can really have this?

[ She slowly reached out her hands for the bread with her eyes wide and sparkling. ]

Of course! [She's giving a genuine smile-- the cherry atop the sundae.]

I... kind of already ate three. [Even if they were relatively huge.]

[ Ruby instantly became the sweetest person she's met so far. Jin quickly pulled her into a big hug. ]

Thank you thank you thank you so much!

[Luckily enough, she loves hugs! Yay, friendship!]

[Ah, how nice! She's actually done a good deed for the day! She's so proud...]

I was trying to find the airbenders in this city!

Airbenders?

[ She gave her a curious look. She had thought there weren't anymore of them left in the world. ]

Really?

Y-yeah! [She pauses, fidgeting as she looks down at her hands.] I... I'm kind of one now, too.

I've never met an Airbender before! I can't believe my new friend is an airbender!

Yeah, heh... I was pretty surprised I turned out to be one, too. Fire Nation and all. Super weird!

Can I see? I mean would you mind showing me something?

Ummmm, [Ruby's squinting, trying to think of something cool and impressive!] okay! Hold on!

[She's making some-- well, somewhat fluid hand gestures, moving both hands in sync before she points them both to the ground, palms down. With a slow inhale, Ruby closes her eyes for a second, and blasts a large puff of air, enough to propel her into the air some. She moves her hands again, turning them as she lands... sitting cross legged on a ball of air. She manages to stay there for about thirty seconds before it all breaks and she lands on her butt.]

I'm not very good. But that was something I had been working on!

[ Jin started clapping excitedly from the little display. ]

That was really amazing!

[ She holds out her hand to help Ruby stand up. ]

[She's taking her hand, still brandishing a smile as stands and dusts herself off.] But, yeah! That's why I'm here! To talk to the airbenders in Republic City! I'm just trying to be better at all... this.

I don't really know where any airbenders are, but hey! Maybe I can help you find them!

That would be nice! [What a cool lady!] So, uh, what brings you to this city? Maybe I can help you as a thank you!

You know what? That's kind of a question I'm still asking myself.

Hmm? How come?

Either I spaced out really hard or some kind of magic brought me here, because the last thing I remember doing is having some tea and then I open my eyes and I'm getting yelled at by these moving carts!
