Welcome to Republic City!

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

Okay. Okay, okay, okay. This? This... This was a big deal.

Honestly, as a born and bred Fire Nation resident, she wasn't sure what was more awesome: Lord Zuko himself, or the trusty dragon he typically mounted to get him there or there, from land to the other. She knew that going to Republic City was going to make her see some interesting people, but no one that would be this important and influential!

So, don't mind her if she's just keeping her distance, good sir, ogling you both from afar. Is her excitement radiating enough? She's most certainly looking the part!

Lord Zuko doesn't even seem to notice he's being watched at first, focused on testing the barrier and puzzling out how to handle the potential impending crisis in the city. After a few minutes, though, he looks around for anyone, human or spirit, that might be of help. Only a young lady is nearby, so he heads over.

"Pardon me," he says, offering her a quick bow, "but could I ask you a few questions? Have you seen any strange spiritual activity in this area? Aside from the barrier, of course."

...Apparently, he's oblivious to the fangirling for the time being.

Oh, wow! He's bowing. To her? Any stunned expression she's had insofar is amplified, her posture immediately straightening... you know, before she bows even more exaggeratedly.

"Me?" Was he asking her a question? Okay, collect yourself, Ruby. Answer him! "Sure! Any questions you want, I-I'm here for you, of course!"

There's a vaguely nervous laugh, before she continues. "Uhh, strange spiritual activity? Here? Hmm... well, not too much here, but..." She shrugs, hoping she can help! "I did hear that some people in the city are saying they're... I don't know, not from this world or something? But they don't look like spirit creatures or anything. They look like just regular people!"

Now Zuko notices how excited and nervous she is, but he's long used to such reactions. He's also long since learned that the best solution is to carry on as if they're having an ordinary conversation; usually, it helps the other person become more at ease. What need is there for formalities, after all?

"I've heard the same things. No doubt that whatever is causing the phenomenon is connected to this," he gestures to the barrier, then looks back at her. "Are you a resident of Republic City?"

She gasps audibly. It probably sounds like a half-wheeze, but it shows her intrigue. "I wonder if the Spirit World is more than just random animals and weird vine... things! Maybe there's a whole other world there and everyone's just like, pouring out, and..."

Maybe she should stop rambling. "Well, technically I am. I just moved here a few days ago! I'm from the Fire Nation, too!"

"You might not be wrong. Until we have more information, anything could be possible." Privately, he wonders if perhaps the police should round up and question anyone who's newly arrived, and then make suitable arrangements for them to find a place to stay... Again, that's the President's call, not his, so he can only make suggestions, but he still can't help but think as he would have as Fire Lord.

"Are you? It's a shame your introduction to the city had to be so... fraught," he says, apologetically. "When you first arrived a few days ago, did you notice anything odd then?"
