It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

Um... That's okay! I don't wanna trouble you. And Appa, he finds ways to get by! [He says nervously.]

But the last question... Yeah, that's right! I wanna meet all the new airbenders. Do you know where I can find some?

Now that I can definitely help with. Most of the airbenders are living on Air Temple Island at the moment. We had a free day today but I'm getting ready to head back if you'd like to come with me.

You would? I... I'd be really honored! Wait... by 'we', do you mean...?

[Here she laughs a little.]

That's right! I'm Opal Beifong, one of the new airbenders. It's very nice to meet you.

[His expression lights up with hope. An actual living airbender right in front of him? And she's so nice! He can't believe it!]

You really are an airbender too? I... I'm really glad to meet you Opal!

[Then he blinks for a moment, as something else settles in.]

...Did you just say Beifong?

[Boy he looks surprised.]

I did. So you better be nice to me or I'll tell my Aunt Lin.

[A beat, then she laughs a little.]

Actually that wouldn't really work... but we are related.

[Surprised doesn't even begin to cover it! It was one thing learning he and Katara would have a family... but he had never even imagined such a thing from Toph.]

You are, huh? There wouldn't happen to be... anyone in your family named Toph, right? [Maybe they're cousins? Maybe there's morethan one Beifong family?

But that girl's smile looks familiar, just with mirth in place of spunk.]

[She beams at the mention.]

Toph is my grandmother. My Aunt Lin and my mother are her only two children. [Her laugh is light and her voice just a little teasing.] You're really up on your history, aren't you.

[Not that it's surprising, most people knew a particular set of names as well as they knew their own family member's names. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Toph... it would be harder to find people who didn't know them.]

["Toph is my grandmother."

There it is, set in stone. Suddenly, he and his friends are a bunch of grandparents. He can see it in Opal; even if she has an opposite demeanor, he feels like he can see the traces of Toph in her. Toph... with a family.

He gives a sheepish laugh to try to cover himself.]

I guess I don't have enough history lessons! I... I've known about Toph, but I never knew she had a family. Just from knowing you... I know it's gotta be a great one.

[airyopalescent]

[Awww, how sweet.]

I think so but then I'm a little biased. We're... a little crazy sometimes but we all love each other.

I guess that's the important part, huh? You guys love each other and you're there for each other. Everyone just can't get along perfectly all the time.

[airyopalescent]

Exactly. If you're family though, you try to find a way.

[Try being the key word.]

So was there anything you wanted in the city still or would you like to go to Air Temple Island with me?

Ooh, ooh! Air Temple Island please! [Then he clears his throat and takes a moment to compose himself.] I mean... Yes. I would really like to please head to Air Temple Island.

[airyopalescent]

[So much excitement! Opal laughs brightly.]

I'm so glad you're so excited. I bet the other airbenders are just going to love meeting you!

[Aang grins sheepishly back.]

I sure hope so! [His last memory of airbenders his age are a bunch of them refusing to let him play air scooter tag with them...] I can't wait to see what it's like.

[airyopalescent]

[The boat ride there isn't so bad, all things considered. The crowding in the city is certainly worse than that of the boat. And of course there's the statue of Avatar Aang easily seen as well.]

I'm a little biased but it's really great. Master Tenzin isn't there are the moment but his daughter Jinora is. Training is strict at times but I don't think I would have it any other way. I've really learned a lot so far.

[There's a fondness in his expression as he hears one of those names.]

I... I met Jinora earier. I know that she's really great. If everyone there's friendly like you and she are, [it'll be like family.] I'm sure I won't have any problems. At least you learn a lot from the training! [His eyes do drift towards the statue, but he glances away quickly; it's too intimidating.]

[Awww, that's sweet! He must have really taken to Jinora then. Not that she can blame him but it's kind of cute really.]

Did you? I'm glad then. I really like Jinora... not that I don't like any of the other airbenders of course. I'm a bit of a bookworm though and I think she appreciates that.

That sounds really neat! I'm glad you're friends. I've never really read much books... but if both you and Jinora read them, it makes me wanna try some more too!

You sound like you'll fit in just fine then.

[The boat ought to be docking soon and with it the shuffle of new and old airbenders and others visiting begins.]

Don't be afraid to ask for directions if you need them. It can get a bit confusing around here for new people.

Great. [He gets off the boat and starts to take a preliminary glance around. It looks new and different to him to the kinds of air temples he's used to. But he can't deny an odd feeling of home.

He turns back to Opal with a smile.]

Thank you so much, Opal. For everything. [And then he quickly wraps his dear friend's granddaughter in a hug, before he he goes about his way.]
