Welcome to Republic City!

It was a bright and sunny normal day in Republic City. Children were playing, spirits were chirping about, and everything was going along like normal. Well at least that's what everyone seemed to think. That is until so many people seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. For some reason Republic City seemed to be more lively and the crowds bigger.

The spirits have grown restless as if something important was about to change, and to try to fix that change, the spirits with their big long tree like limbs dragged people into the world left and right. Even the vines covering Republic City seemed to help. Although the spirits had the best intentions in mind, some people were more affected by the grab than others. There's talk that people in this city don't even know what this place is. People who have never heard of the words "bender" or "non-bender."

Welcome to Republic City! And to those who already live here: Happy Saturday. Please make yourselves at home and don't mind a little spirit gunk. It's mostly harmless. Go enjoy yourself a classic mover. Maybe you're the athletic type. If that's the case, come watch a few Pro-bending matches or form your own team. Just watch out for any Satomobiles. They can be deadly no matter how pretty the driver is.

Please remember to enjoy your stay and don't cause too much trouble. The Republic City Police don't need more riffraff to take care of. And don't stray too far. To make the the peace is kept, there's a huge spirit barrier around the perimeter of the city. It seems pretty strong, but it won't be able to last forever. Still, it's worrying. Radio signals and telegraphs don't seem to be getting past it.

[ OOC: The game is officially open! From this point on, feel free to make any posts you want or tag into this. Please remember to tag your posts with Canon: Character. Finally, although the game has no real network, you're free to respond with prose or brackets, whatever you're comfortable with. With that said, have fun! ]

Oh man, Tenzin on a pro-bending team? [Bolin chuckles with great amusement at that.] You know, nowadays he might actually go for it... well, [and now Bolin talks in a more faux-stodgy voice,] if he can get away from the serious responsibility of training and raising the new Air Nation. Speaking of Tenzin, is he training everyone today? I still haven't figured out their training schedule, so I keep missing Opal all too often.

And yeah, I'm sure I'll find one soon enough. I just hope I don't have to rely upon that guy I chose last year. Man, that didn't work out.

Really? Is he out doing important airbender things somewhere? [Really, the only thing he can think of is that he's doing something to help be the support for Korra in the world elsewhere, but with him gone, that meant that he and Opal might get a little more time together, right?] And that sounds... great? [He's not really sure that he's cut out for meditation, but... it's with Opal... so he grins and bears it.] I mean, I'd love to try it out with you. It could be fun!

[However, he's almost unprepared for Opal finally taking his hand in hers, and immediately he gets all bashful. Look, they're being a real couple. The two of them are actually holding hands. His nervousness fades away for the most part, and... yes, now they've got a plan.]

I completely forgot that you haven't really spent any time in the city yet. Yeah, I was born and raised here! I can show you all the things worth seeing, and probably some of the things that aren't. There's also a statue of Councilman Sokka on the way there too by the Water Tribe Cultural Center, and... wait, I know. Near the train station, there is absolutely the best noodle shop you will eat at. Narook's Seaweed Noodlery! We could, you know go have a nice dinner date there tonight? And the view of the city by night is amazing too, though I could always ride back with you to Air Temple Island and see the city from the ferry.

[His confidence is finally starting to come back little by little. He actually does know how to show a girl a good time!]

She nodded, somewhat relishing the fact that she had someone to talk about her day with. That was something friends did, right? Weiss could not remember the last time that anyone seemed genuinely interested in her comings and goings.

Once they started walking again, Weiss made a frustrated noise. "I spent all day looking for a job, but it was so busy. I don't think I even got through half the city!"
glyphe: (the girl thought)

[personal profile] glyphe 2014-10-12 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Meeting up with friends, that sounded nice. Weiss didn't have many friends to hang out with. Sure, she'd met Ruby and Yang, but she didn't know where they were staying or what they were doing.

"You have fun, then," she finally says, pushing her bangs out of her face. "Today, I'm looking for a job, so I don't get to play around."
redcladidealist: (Huh...)

[personal profile] redcladidealist 2014-10-12 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, yeah. Didn't you know?" He holds up his fingers to tick them off. "Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Thunder, Ice, Light, and Dark." When he reaches the last, he looks pretty pleased with himself. See, Professor Sage? He can memorize things besides just his times tables and all the Dwarven Vows.
redcladidealist: (Concerned)

"I don't think I've ever even seen a lion turtle." Though he has seen some pretty big turtle type monsters before. None of them big enough to build a city on. Where in the world had that come from?

But that's a tangent, distracting Lloyd for a moment and then gone, because what Bolin is saying is baffling him. "I'm not making things up." Except Bolin doesn't sound like he's making things up either. Sure, someone might try to pull Lloyd's leg, but if they really wanted him to believe them, wouldn't they make it more, you know, believable? This is too complex, too big, and Bolin just looks like a guy who wouldn't lie to him. Not about something like this. Lloyd shakes his head. "This doesn't make sense. I've been around the world and never heard of any of those places. It's like we're talking about two different... worlds..."

Wait....
redcladidealist: (Did you just...?)

[personal profile] redcladidealist 2014-10-12 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[The joke earns and amused snort from Lloyd, though he doesn't follow it with one of his own. They do kind of have more important things to worry about.]

I know. Actually, I talked with someone about that already, and she thinks I might be able to work for her. Some of the stuff she does needs people for construction. I could do something like that.

But what about you? I don't... [He hesitates.] Zelos, call me crazy, but I don't think we're in the same world. No one'll know who you are. You'd have to get a job with just what you can do.

[What can Zelos do?]

"Well, we have room for pretty much any kind of craftsman, if we can see that your skills are something we're after." Machines couldn't do everything, but Asami wasn't going to just snatch anyone off the street who could potentially clog up her operation.
paishodown: (you're not wearing the scarf.)

[personal profile] paishodown 2014-10-12 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Asami nods, giving Aang a small reassuring smile.]

Don't worry about that, I'm not going to run and tell the presses.

[She can still remember the wreck Korra was when she first arrived in the big city.]
paishodown: (We fricked.)

[personal profile] paishodown 2014-10-12 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Avatar...

Oh, no.

"Actually..." Asami pauses. She doesn't know if she wants to tell Bolin that Aang is here. The young Avatar had made it clear that he doesn't want people making a big deal out of his arrival. She sugarcoats it as best she can.

"There are a lot of people showing up from different times of our world, too."

A-are you sure?
gainedacoupon: (I couldn't possibly)

H-hey wait a second where are you going?!

[ She frowned and tried following him ]
gainedacoupon: (Fondest memory)

[personal profile] gainedacoupon 2014-10-12 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed excitedly and happily followed behind. Even if they couldn't find a wash tub they still might be able to find something that floats, right?

" This is exciting. I've never in over water before."
gainedacoupon: (I think it's cute)

[personal profile] gainedacoupon 2014-10-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Then what are we waiting for, Wan? Lets grab everything we can get for them.
braavado: (idk...my bff Naga?)

[personal profile] braavado 2014-10-12 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Right...we're probably thinking about the same one, then.

[Oh, boy. This isn't going to be good.]

This is going to sound weird, but...what's the last thing you remember?
braavado: (We'll bust ALL of them out)

[personal profile] braavado 2014-10-12 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I can think of a few places like that. [Only through the brothers' influence, of course. When she'd first arrived in Republic City, she wouldn't have known any of this.

She gestures for him to follow her.]

So where are you from?

[His clothes don't look like ones she's seen around--not that she'd know anything about fashion. Still, Korra's curious.]
braavado: (Seems like I keep making enemies)

[personal profile] braavado 2014-10-12 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No luck, either.

[Korra sighs, shoulders slumping. She'd kind of been hoping, with Jinora's spiritual powers so much stronger than hers, that she might have found something.]

I've tried meditating into the Spirit World, but I keep hitting a block. It has to be the barrier.

[Before Harmonic Convergence, Korra might have just blamed her own lack of ability, but since she's been able to reach the Spirit World easily recently...all evidence points at something else being the culprit.]
braavado: (So much has happened)

[personal profile] braavado 2014-10-12 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You're in Republic City.

[That question alone tells Korra that he must have been drawn here like the others. She'll just prod a little more to make sure.]

Where did you come from?
braavado: (I am SO sorry)

[personal profile] braavado 2014-10-12 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You were left unable to walk. It's even worse than what Korra had imagined, and for a moment, she's too much in shock to even speak. If she's out of commission, with no way to recover quickly like Lord Zuko is implying, then what will happen next?

"But what if something happens and the Avatar's needed?" Korra finally asks, still trying to swallow this. It's her worst fear, failing to protect people when it's her job. One thing's certain; if this is her future, she has to find some way around her injuries. She's not going to just sit by and let them keep her from her duties.

"In return for all you've done for the airbenders, they've pledged to carry on your work in maintaining world balance, under the leadership of Tenzin and Jinora."

He hopes that much, at least, will offer her some solace: rescuing and inspiring a nation slowly trying to get back on its feet is an enormous, and very selfless, accomplishment. If Aang were here now, he's sure he would be proud of her beyond measure.

"I tell you this not because I want to burden you with events you don't remember, but because it is better that you learn the truth of what happened now, rather than at an inopportune moment."
restoredhonour: (pic#8079458)

[personal profile] restoredhonour 2014-10-12 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was hoping you might be able to answer that. It's surrounding the whole city, it's impervious to fire, and there are no gaps or holes in it to slip through. In short -- the city is trapped." He frowns at it, and back at Aang. "This city has existed since not long after the end of the war, and even in all those years, I've never seen anything like this."

He'd almost hoped Aang's appearance here was a sign he had come to help, inexplicable though it was... but it seems his young best friend is just as clueless as anyone in the city. This is getting more and more complicated with every passing moment.

Druk rumbles his assent. Then, no sooner is Wan seated that he lifts his head and spreads his wings, taking to the air in only a few powerful beats of his wings. He doesn't need to be steered by his rider, instead following of his own accord in the direction he had last seen Mula disappear to.
streetferret: (Suddenly I need an escape route...)

[personal profile] streetferret 2014-10-12 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah. If you mean Avatar Aang's statue out on the Yue Bay, but last I checked: He can't talk.

[...wait. Mako blinks a few times, his mind going back to the girl with the braid he met. How she's from the past.]

... [Monkeyfeathers.]

[personal profile] airyopalescent 2014-10-12 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
All in all, Opal's rather impressed by the list of elements. He has a right to look pleased with himself over his memorized list.

"And your friend can control most of those?"

[personal profile] airyopalescent 2014-10-12 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[At the question on Tenzin, all Opal can do is made an uncertain expression.]

I'm not sure really. When all of these people started turning up and the spiritual barrier went up about the City, he just didn't seem to be there. None of the other children are either or Pema.

[There's a moderate amount of worry to her tone.]

I don't think they're in any danger but... well, we have to wait until the barrier goes down before anything can really be done. And being too negative about it won't help the other airbenders, particularly Jinora.

[That said, she seems to brush the topic aside for just now. They haven't seen each other in a while after all and the last thing she wants is to cloud a day out with him by only contemplating the bad points of their current situation. There's a lot of good points too, like right now and how his confidence seems to be growing with the inclusion of a plan.]

You really are a quick thinker! It sounds great to me - any place with Seaweed in the title can't be bad. I didn't know there was a statue of Sokka too - they're really are a lot of statues around here then.

[Look, she likes her greenery, okay.]
