The White Swanfish Gala (Open to All, including party-crashers)

The White Swanfish Gala is this evening - A VIP-only event where invitations are only sent to the likes of the heads of industry, Mover stars, avatars, and their guests. The host is Wil Zan (Slade's affable civilian alter ego), and he is dressed in a fine white and blue silk nehru, smiling broadly and chatting with what seems like every patron there, one at a time. He has brought in the finest chefs to provide an unlimited stream of fine food and drink, popular musicians provide entertainment and lively music to dance to, and this gala is sure to be an event worth talking about for years.

Interestingly, Zan has set up some rather unusual security measures. Though your average riff-raff will be kept out, he has intentionally left strategic security gaps that can be bypassed by the bold and the cunning. Zan actually has men covertly watching these gaps, but instead of stopping these party-crashers, their instructions are to inform Zan. (This serves as a sort of test for potential apprentices that Slade may try to recruit in the future.)

((NOTE: This is an event log, so not every reply has to be toward Slade. Feel free to write what your character is doing at the party or how they snuck in, etc. "Zan" is likely to give you his attention, but others can too.))

"The city's never faced an issue on a scale quite like this, but there should at least be enough resources for the city to sustain itself for a few more weeks. More, if measures are put in place to ration food and other vital supplies. After that..."

Well, he doubts anyone will be so calm, or throwing lavish parties like these. It all troubles him greatly, but there's little to be done, until the issue of Republic City's leadership is resolved.

Asami sets her drink down on the table, expression still mild.

"Do you have any plans on taking on leadership here for yourself? Even as a temporary measure." They don't even have leadership. Much as Raiko frustrated her, it was better to have him in office than nobody at all. And at a time like this...

"If I am needed for now, I'll lend what aid I can to keep the city on its feet," Zuko says, stroking his beard thoughtfully. "But ultimately, who governs the city is now for the people to decide. President Raiko's disappearance is no reason to revert to the old mode of governance, with unelected leaders from other nations taking charge."

Those might have been ideas he and Aang founded the city on, but times have changed since then. What Republic City needs most right now is stablility... but in the wider scope of things, it still needs to maintain its new political autonomy, too.

"Does the city even have any laws established as of yet as to what measures are taken in the event of the President's absence?" Asami isn't so solid on that side of things, and she figures Zuko ought to at least know something, even if he's mostly retired from the central public eye.

"Raiko may have appointed someone to assume his place should such an emergency arise, particularly after the scare of his kidnapping. But with so many important figures missing from the city, it's impossible to say." And since Zuko had no involvement in Republic City's politics for a very long time, he has no way of finding out. "The only real alternative we have is an emergency election, even if that means the city will remain without a leader for a little longer."

"I'd offer my help with organization, but I don't think people will like the look of a huge company getting so hands-on with elections. And I don't blame them." Asami had no real desire to influence anything, but she had to think about the bigger picture, now more than ever.

"Making sure this doesn't turn into complete chaos is going to be the toughest part."
