A medium-sized group of people have decided to take matters into their own hands. In the middle of the night, they split apart and casually make their way through different parts of the city. And then suddenly, all across the city, homes and apartments catch fire; some buildings, specifically businesses, collapse due to suddenly unstable ground; other areas near water are completely flooded.

It's not long before most, if not all of the suspects are apprehended, but quite a bit of damage has been done. Boroughs 3, 4 and 5 were hit the hardest for what seems to be due to the fact most of the refugees live in those areas. Some parts of the Spirit Wilds also have some damage, but the spirits were quick to chase away the vandals from their home.

For anyone awake at this late hour, word is quickly spreading and the blame is being squarely placed on the shoulders of the refugees. At least, that's why the the vandals claim to have done it. They're taking all the resources...! That... the group just destroyed. Apparently if they can't have them, neither can the refugees. Most of the members of the group seem to be members of the Triads. Apparently they felt the need to be "heroic."

For those not awake, well, they probably will wake up soon. The earth begins to rumble and shake violently all throughout Republic City, much too strong for even a large group of earthbenders. A few more buildings fall victim to damages from debris.

The shaking stops after a solid three minutes or so, but throughout the night, strong aftershocks will shake the city. What's of interest is what happened during the earthquake. On Air Temple Island, a bunch of spiritual energy has gathered. The result of the gathered spirits is a ball of energy that fiercely glows a red color. Sparks of red leap away from the gathered energy and apparently draw in quite the impressive strike of lightning! Hopefully the airbenders won't mind a giant red glowing thing of doom right where the symbol for Tui and La used to be.

Someone could investigate. It's dark and the glow from the ball of energy can be seen for a few miles, although as time goes on the glow will subside a bit, but not completely.

Mako knew exactly who Bolin meant with that trail off, but he didn't want to make his brother worry about Opal any more than he had to. His brother shouldn't have to have that kind of strain on him, even if it's the exact same thing he himself was doing with Korra. They'd be fine, they had to be. That's how things worked; except the time it didn't that everyone seems to remember except him and Korra.

The ramp's smooth enough and keeping the boat at a speed where they don't crash isn't too hard. "Alright, let's go check this out. Keep your guard up. Who knows what's going on."

Words that are more habit, going through the verbal motions, but Mako stood by them none the less as he climbed upwards.

Yes, it's definitely left unsaid. Bolin certainly has the vague idea that Mako is worried about Korra, though it's certainly not because of anything he said specifically. Korra's their mutual friend, and Bolin is worried about her too—though perhaps not to the level that Mako is. After all, he's usually not into the details of Mako's love life... since Mako usually isn't the one to talk about it, of course.

"I'm right behind you, Mako," he says as he springs out of the boat. Bolin peeks over the cliff face before hoisting himself up the hard way, and once up on the island proper, he steps behind Mako off to his side, letting Mako lead, just like he's always done when they were younger.

"Everything... looks normal," he offers. "Well, except for the big glowing ball."

Well he certainly wasn’t going to get any sleep, ever. What Bolin pointed out would be a full on report since he’s the only cop that’s investigated it as far as he knew.

But he was expecting to find utter chaos, the kind that always came with anything that’s glowing. He took a sweeping look around the portal and looked past Bolin to the Air Temple. "Doesn’t look like there’s been any fighting here." No burn marks or missing chunks of the ground.

"I’ll check inside and see if the acolytes know anything. You look for Opal. Let’s meet back outside if this thing ends up exploding or worse, all right?"

"Exploding? Or worse?" Bolin winces at the prospect of that, and immediately he takes a few steps back, as if somehow one of Varrick's bombs had been dropped at his feet and being just a few paces further away from it would make him totally okay. "Y-yeah, we should probably find everyone and make sure they're as far from that thing as we can. You look for Korra, and if we have time, let's see if Jinora or any of the others are here as well."

And so Bolin heads off in search of Opal.

[OOC: And then to speed things along, I'll go talk with Opal-mun to see if I can figure out what would happen. Or whatever works! I'm so far behind right now!]
