Unrest

A medium-sized group of people have decided to take matters into their own hands. In the middle of the night, they split apart and casually make their way through different parts of the city. And then suddenly, all across the city, homes and apartments catch fire; some buildings, specifically businesses, collapse due to suddenly unstable ground; other areas near water are completely flooded.

It's not long before most, if not all of the suspects are apprehended, but quite a bit of damage has been done. Boroughs 3, 4 and 5 were hit the hardest for what seems to be due to the fact most of the refugees live in those areas. Some parts of the Spirit Wilds also have some damage, but the spirits were quick to chase away the vandals from their home.

For anyone awake at this late hour, word is quickly spreading and the blame is being squarely placed on the shoulders of the refugees. At least, that's why the the vandals claim to have done it. They're taking all the resources...! That... the group just destroyed. Apparently if they can't have them, neither can the refugees. Most of the members of the group seem to be members of the Triads. Apparently they felt the need to be "heroic."

For those not awake, well, they probably will wake up soon. The earth begins to rumble and shake violently all throughout Republic City, much too strong for even a large group of earthbenders. A few more buildings fall victim to damages from debris.

The shaking stops after a solid three minutes or so, but throughout the night, strong aftershocks will shake the city. What's of interest is what happened during the earthquake. On Air Temple Island, a bunch of spiritual energy has gathered. The result of the gathered spirits is a ball of energy that fiercely glows a red color. Sparks of red leap away from the gathered energy and apparently draw in quite the impressive strike of lightning! Hopefully the airbenders won't mind a giant red glowing thing of doom right where the symbol for Tui and La used to be.

Someone could investigate. It's dark and the glow from the ball of energy can be seen for a few miles, although as time goes on the glow will subside a bit, but not completely.

[ Tags from this account will probably come tomorrow. We'll comment back about the red thing of doom, but otherwise let us know if you want us for stuff. Otherwise, feel free to NPC some things. Catch a runaway or two, etc. ]

Satisfied, Maomi would bring Bolin to Dove if the human was obedient enough to follow. She'd be checking every so often to make sure he did.

Another muttered name caught Dove's attention, and her eyes widened inexplicably wider as she stared down at the young firelord. "A-Avatar Aang...?" she wondered aloud, before shaking it off and squeezing his hand again.

"Lord Zuko...got it." A deep breath. "You're going to be okay. Just hold on."

When Maomi returned with Bolin, relief coursed through her, and she motioned him over. "Bolin!"

Zuko didn't offer any explanation, right now he was focusing on breathing. He gasped as it felt like the debris was getting heavier. Making it almost impossible for his lungs to expand and draw in air. Not to mention it hurt. A lot.

And his legs were going numb.

At least Bolin still has his earthbending. He actually hasn't noticed all that much weird going on with the spirit barrier down yet. But he runs along, at least a length or two behind the tigerdillo. Pabu is still... not super happy, but at this point it's now because of the general fire and rubble that are everywhere in the city; at least he's curled away and tucked safely inside Bolin's shirt, which definitely makes Bolin look... kind of funny, as if he were wearing a fat suit.

"Dove?" Of course it's dove; where else would you find a (mostly?) tame tigerdillo in the city. "What's going o—oooooooooh." It doesn't take long for him to see someone underneath the rubble. The bad lighting doesn't reveal his identity right away, and that's probably for the best.

"Okay, I've got this."

She was thankful there wasn't much to explain as Bolin arrived and realized what had happened, and she looked to the young firelord again. "Bolin's going to get you out of here, okay?" she told him, tightening her fingers one last time before rising to her feet to get out of the way.

She stayed close, but not too terribly close, and nodded, waiting for Bolin to move the rubble so she could assist Zuko once it had cleared. Maomi stayed nearby, her eyes flicking to the bulge in the earthbender's shirt every so often with interest.

Zuko blinked once as he recognized that name, but only nodded in response. Right now he didn't care who got him out of there or how. He just wanted to get this stuff off of him.

...

And then they might hear the loud flapping of wings above them. One of the spirits having summoned a friend who came streaking down from the sky. In the form of a huge red dragon. Druk hovered over the area before landing nearby with a thud and a gust of wind from his wings.

This is one of those rare times when Bolin is wearing his serious face. He's always serious when it comes to helping other people. He kneels down to look at the rubble to look at it, trying to figure out the best way to earthbend it up and out of the way. With the building having fallen everywhere, it was really just a huge but unstable pile of rocks.

"Okay, I think I've got this. Dove, you pull him out just in case something else starts sliding down. Alright?"

He waits only a moment for her reply before he assumes a low stance, takes in a deep breath, and then digs into the earth below. He lifts up his arms, though it looks like he's pulling up an invisible weight as there's a clear resistance. When he does so, a good dozen of the rocks atop him start to raise up a little bit, though with the sheer weight of it, they don't raise all that much.

Dove nodded from her post, ready to move whenever Bolin was ready.

She was, unfortunately, COMPLETELY thrown off when Lord Zuko's dragon appeared above them and landed not too far away, and for a moment could only stare as she put the pieces together. Yeah... That made sense. Yes, dragon, good.

Maomi tensed hugely, golden eyes turning from their lock on Bolin's shirt--or more specifically Pabu-- to the giant flying beast instead.

When the rocks shifted, though, the woman's focus went back to the young firelord, and as soon as the rocks were lifted, she went into action, nimbly lowering herself to the hurt young man and doing her best to pull him out. It was difficult, but she would give as much effort as she could, all the while careful not to hurt him any further.

Zuko immediately gulped in air as he felt the pressure on his chest lift. But there was a stabbing pain with each breath he took as well. Still, at least he could breathe. As Dove tried to pull him out, he then let out a cry of pain.

"Agh, my leg is stuck!"

And it felt like it was broken too.

Druk calmly walked over, and looked over the situation. Then lowering his massive head, he placed his snout underneath the debris that Bolin was lifting. The dragon attempting to help the earthbender lift it further. The reason for Zuko's stuck leg though, was a metal beam.

The weight of the rocks is certainly heavy, though it's not like he can't bear the weight for a while. At least Zuko underneath is able to breathe, but there's not a whole lot he can do about the metal beam.

"Ungh, metal... why does it have to be metal?" he says with a sad lament, as he staggers with the weight of the rocks. "Okay, time for Plan B." He hadn't expected a dragon to come help, and if he weren't busy lifting an entire pile of rocks he might have recognized said dragon. However, for now he's a little preoccupied.

Bolin turns a little bit to make sure the coast is clear behind him, and one by one he starts throwing the rocks on top of the pile he's lifted off to the side, lightening his load. He might not have been able to do it safe that Druk is helping him manage the load. At one point, a few of the other pieces of rubble start to topple, but Bolin catches those too and puts those into the small heap of rock to the side before finally finishing it.

"Welp, we're going to have to do this thing the manual way. Unless one of you two happen to be metalbenders." Nonetheless he goes to the beam and sees if he can even lift it at all...

Dove nearly dropped him when he cried out, but instead gently lowered him to the earth below, half kneeling beside him. When druk dipped his head right beside her, she tensed visibly, her eyes widening hugely as she watched the dragon bear some of the weight for Bolin. "Good dragon..." she commented in hushed awe, looking out at Bolin as the earthbender moved the rocks off to the side.

The metal beam proved to be a bigger problem. Turning from it to Zuko again, she looked him over, taking inventory as Bolin joined them, and answered his question without taking her eyes off the boy. "Firebenders," she told him apologetically, looking now down the length of the beam and hoping Bolin wouldn't freak out when he realized who the trapped boy was. "I could try to cut through it though to make it smaller..." she offered, though she wasn't too sure if she would even be able...

Zuko groaned and grimaced at the pain in his leg, as well as Dove's suggestion. Cutting through the metal beam with firebending could take a long time.

Once Bolin had moved all the debris though, and the metal beam was exposed, Druk lifted his head and looked at the humans then back at the beam that pinned his younger companion down. With a low growl he moved forward, careful not to step on any of them. He then bent down, and clamped his mouth around the beam. The dragon then began to lift it off of Zuko, moving some more debris in the process which hopefully Bolin could handle.

Once the beam was clear, Druk reared his head and tossed it to the side where it landed with a loud crash.

Well, while cutting through it was one option, they certainly had a dragon to help them move a single beam. "As much as I like that plan, Dove, and I don't mean to say it's bad, we do have kind of this five-ton, intelligent dragon who can probably just move the beam instead of cutting through it. Just saying. Still, good idea; just help pull him out when he's finally free." Yeah, let's go that way. Even though it would be heavy, and it would be slightly lodged between the rubble, Druk is certainly able to move it as Bolin helps shift the rocks of the debris into shapes slightly more conducive to jimmying the beam slightly higher and eventually out.

When Zuko is finally free, Bolin finally takes a proper assessment of the situation.

...

There's a five-ton dragon here. One that he also recognizes.

And the person that was trapped beneath the beam has a rather characteristic scare on his face. Again, one that he also recognizes.

Bolin practically does double takes between BOTH of these sights before slapping his hands against his cheeks.

"Lord Zuko!?!?"

When the dragon growled, Dove immediately took a few steps back, then quite a few more when she realized its intentions. She put herself next to Bolin, giving him plenty of room to help until everything had been settled and sighing heavily as she shoved her hair back out of her face. "I-- yeah. Yeah we do."

When it seemed clear to approach, the young woman immediately went back to Zuko's side to asses the situation and help him onto safer ground away from the dust and rubble...if he could move at all.

Zuko accepted the help, managing to get up with a groan and a pained expression. One of his legs was broken, so he didn't put any weight on it, hobbling along with Dove with one arm around her shoulder and the other clutching his side. A cut on his head also bleeding slowly.

"Thank you," he told them all softly. Certainly glad and appreciative that they had even found him.

Though Zuko paused and blinked up at the earthbender that had saved him, when he apparently recognized who he was.

"Uh... yes?"

Druk just looked on patiently, following wherever they moved his young friend.

When Zuko acknowledges Bolin's claim that it is, indeed, himself, his jaw drops in shock. "But, you're... supposed to be... 80-something years old!" He looks between Zuko and Dove with just some sort of bewilderment. "But you look just like the statue of yourself over at the train station. Actually, no, you look younger than the statue at the train station!"

But then he realizes that Zuko is still weak on his... foot and that his other foot is obviously broken. "Well, hold that thought, I guess. I can get you to the hospital fast. Just stand next to me, and try to keep your balance, alright?" After all, if this is indeed Lord Zuko, well, that was an important thing to do, right? Besides, would her tigerdillo even let him leave right this moment. "And Pabu, you just stay tucked in there, okay." The fire ferret gives out a brief noise before his apparent stomach rustles slightly.

Once they've done that, Bolin broadens his stance, lowers his hands, and then pulls upward, pulling a solid block of earth up out of the street. And then with a gentle shove, the block begins to move along the earth behind him en route to the hospital.
