Overwhelmed, Zuko flopped himself down on a large piece of building debris with sigh.

"Well... yeah. Aang is from my time. But... I've never even heard of you. And I've studied the Avatars."

Rather unwillingly he might add, when they had paid a visit to the Fire Sages that one time.

Wan walked back to Zuko and sat down next to him. Not close enough to touch, but close enough to talk easily.

"My name has been lost to history for most of the world," he replied easily. "I think it's better that way. I don't belong here any more than you do. My time has passed. A new era of the Avatar has begun, started by Avatar Korra at Harmonic Convergence. An era where humans and spirits can finally live together again."

There's a blink and a frown.

"How can you say that? You make it sound like you don't matter anymore. That would be like saying Aang doesn't matter anymore. Your time might be passed, but you were brought here for a reason. We all were, right?"

It was hard to believe this was just some big cosmic accident with the huge spiritual barrier around Republic City like that. Surely there had been intent.

"That's what worries me," he said, leaning forward and letting his hands fall between his knees. "Korra has done so much and she's clearly capable of handling whatever is happening in this era. But if the Spirit World brought two of her past lives here to help her... then something within the Spirit World doesn't think she'll be able to handle what's coming. If she can't, I'm not sure Aang or I can either."

"But the Spirit World didn't just bring Avatars," Zuko pointed out. "They brought all of us. People from the past, friends of Avatars, and people from other worlds."

Obviously, something big was going down. Something that the Spirit World thought would need all of them for, maybe?

"I know," he replied softly, sighing. "It doesn't worry me any less."

Zuko went quiet. He would be lying if he said he wasn't worried himself. Who knew what might happens. Things were already getting back here in Republic City. They didn't even know what was going on outside the barrier.

"I guess we should get back to looking," Zuko then said, not knowing what else to say.

Wan nodded and stood up, "Sure. We need to get you a new mask if we can."

And speaking of masks...

"Did Bolin find you to talk about the Fire Ferrets tryouts?"

Just as he was pushing himself to his feet too, Zuko paused and huffed a little.

"Yeah, I didn't make it in."

Which was stupid because he had done pretty good at those tryouts if he says so himself.

"You didn't?" Wan was actually surprised to hear that and it showed. "Oh. Well... that's great!"

Zuko gives Wan an irritated look.

"How is that great?!"

"Because you can join my team!" He announced like it was the greatest thing ever. "You wear a mask and if I want to waterbend, I'm going to have to wear a mask. If we can find an earthbender to wear a mask with us, then we can have team that all wear masks! It'll be great!"

The staring continued, but then Zuko actually looked like he was thinking about this seriously for a moment. Their own probending team? Maybe that wasn't such a bad idea. And they would need masks to conceal their identities. Hmmm.

"Toph could be our earthbender," he mused.

Wan thought about that. She was the best earthbender in the city, so she'd be great to have on the team. He'd have to double check the rules for the minimum age of team members - though he was pretty sure she could pass for whatever age that was if it didn't include hers.

"Do you think she would want to?" He asked after a minute or so.

Obviously Wan didn't know Toph all that well just yet. A little smirk coming to Zuko's face at the question.

"A chance to show off, beat up other benders, and make money? I think we can convince her."

But then his expression drops.

"How are we even going to get money for the equipment we need?"

"I haven't gotten that far yet," Wan admitted. He had mostly gotten to the part where he knew he wanted to be on team that wasn't funded by Future Industries and that wouldn't just be him stepping into Korra's old boots. He would prefer to be the team firebender, and had actually been thinking of asking around for earthbenders and waterbenders interested in being on a Pro-Bending team... but Zuko was a great firebender. And if Zuko was on the team and willing to wear a mask, Wan could put up with being the waterbender.

"I wasn't even sure I'd be able to find people to join my team before the spring season. I want to call us the Lion-Turtles!"

Well... that's definitely a problem. Zuko isn't really sure how to get them the money they would need to compete.

"The Lion Turtles?" Zuko asked skeptically. "I don't think most people even know what a Lion Turtle is anymore."

But they should definitely be something cooler than, say, the Fire Ferrets. Wait a minute.

"Didn't the Fire Ferrets have a sponsor? From Future Industries or something?" He remembered seeing that lady there, and it being mentioned in the manual.

He nodded, "Yeah. They do. That's one of the reasons I turned Bolin's offer down. I'd rather not be sponsored by Future Industries... I wonder if we could find some second-hand equipment at some of the stores."

Wan still wasn't to the point of thinking 'maybe we can get a sponsor' but if he saved some of the money he made from random jobs, in a month or so he could probably afford some second-hand equipment.

Well Zuko was, and so he brought it up.

"Maybe we could find a sponsor."

Though who, would be the next question.

"You think we could?" He asked, eyebrows raising. "We'd be a new team. We might need to win a couple matches before anyone would be willing to help us."

"But we can't win matches without the equipment," Zuko pointed out as he started to pace, trying to think.

Zuko then paused as he heard something crumple under his foot. Pausing to lift his foot and look down, he then stooped to pick up a piece of paper. He looked at it for a moment before his eyes widened, turning to Wan and holding out the paper to him. Which just happened to be one of the ads from Varrick Industries.

"What about this?"

Wan stopped and turned on his heel to come back and take a look at the ad from over Zuko's shoulder. It was crumbled and wet and looked like it had been dragged into the wilds by an animal. Possibly a spirit since it was missing any obvious teeth marks.

"Varrick Industries?" Wan frowned, brow creasing, "I don't know. Bolin told me he tried kidnapping President Raiko once in an attempt to convince the United Republic to go to war with the Water Tribes."

On the other hand, Varrick had been pretty nice to Wan at the party and Bolin had talked up how nice he was and how he just wanted to help.

"He did say it was for a good reason, not that I think there are any good reasons for starting a war, but... he hasn't done anything like it since. And he was a lot friendlier and nicer than Asami Sato..."

Zuko blinked, but then looked back to the flier to give it thoughtful pause.

"No, there isn't," he agreed. But then, Zuko had made his share of mistakes, and if the guy hadn't done anything since then... well.

"We could give it a try. It's not like we couldn't back out if we change our mind, right?"

"Yeah... I guess that's true," he murmured as he reached out to take the flyer and give it a closer look. As if it could actually give him any more information. "So... would we just go up to him and say we wanted him to sponsor us?"

Assuming Toph agreed and they could get enough practice in to actually be relatively decent if Varrick asked to see how good they were (or weren't).

"Yes?"

Why not? He didn't know of any other way to do it, honestly. Unless Wan had any better ideas, this was all he had.

"I think I've seen this ship parked at the harbor."

It had stood out well enough.
