Unrest

A medium-sized group of people have decided to take matters into their own hands. In the middle of the night, they split apart and casually make their way through different parts of the city. And then suddenly, all across the city, homes and apartments catch fire; some buildings, specifically businesses, collapse due to suddenly unstable ground; other areas near water are completely flooded.

It's not long before most, if not all of the suspects are apprehended, but quite a bit of damage has been done. Boroughs 3, 4 and 5 were hit the hardest for what seems to be due to the fact most of the refugees live in those areas. Some parts of the Spirit Wilds also have some damage, but the spirits were quick to chase away the vandals from their home.

For anyone awake at this late hour, word is quickly spreading and the blame is being squarely placed on the shoulders of the refugees. At least, that's why the the vandals claim to have done it. They're taking all the resources...! That... the group just destroyed. Apparently if they can't have them, neither can the refugees. Most of the members of the group seem to be members of the Triads. Apparently they felt the need to be "heroic."

For those not awake, well, they probably will wake up soon. The earth begins to rumble and shake violently all throughout Republic City, much too strong for even a large group of earthbenders. A few more buildings fall victim to damages from debris.

The shaking stops after a solid three minutes or so, but throughout the night, strong aftershocks will shake the city. What's of interest is what happened during the earthquake. On Air Temple Island, a bunch of spiritual energy has gathered. The result of the gathered spirits is a ball of energy that fiercely glows a red color. Sparks of red leap away from the gathered energy and apparently draw in quite the impressive strike of lightning! Hopefully the airbenders won't mind a giant red glowing thing of doom right where the symbol for Tui and La used to be.

Someone could investigate. It's dark and the glow from the ball of energy can be seen for a few miles, although as time goes on the glow will subside a bit, but not completely.

[ Tags from this account will probably come tomorrow. We'll comment back about the red thing of doom, but otherwise let us know if you want us for stuff. Otherwise, feel free to NPC some things. Catch a runaway or two, etc. ]

Open, during the initial attack

Though Nezha had no idea what was going on, there was one thing he could be sure of, and that was that the city was in chaos. Now, a sane person would be trying to escape the flames and finding ways to help. Nezha was far from sane.

Nope, instead the youth had grabbed the opportunity to bust some heads, and with spear in hand, he could be found fighting off terrorists not far from the Spirit Wilds. Not for the sake of keeping the peace, mind you, but for the sheer fun of having an excuse to participate in the chaos. At least he's helping?

Even though Nezha is focused on the terrorists right now, disasters have a way of grabbing people's attention - which may be the case when a whole side of a building starts crumbling right into the street. The sound is deafening, temporarily drowning out all else. Once it's over, though, there's definitely the sound of terrified cries inside.

Lloyd's already in motion, jerking away from where he'd been trying to clear rubble. The terrorists Nezha's chasing barely even register because there's a kid crying, this is way more important.

"There's people still in there!" he shouts to anyone listening, sprinting across the street. "We have to get them out!"

Will Nezha keep chasing? Or will he listen to Lloyd's cry for help?

Truth be told, Nezha would likely have continued his pursuit if not for the deafening crash of a wall collapsing in front of him. It managed to snap him out of his battle trance long enough to actually catch what Lloyd said to him.

"Hm?" the brunet whips his head around, momentarily distracted (just long enough for the Triads he'd been chasing to slip away). "Who's still where?"

Lloyd barely spares a glance at Nezha, already pulling away the rubble with his hands. "Inside the building!" he says urgently. "Can't you hear them? We've got to get them out before the rest of it collapses!" Which means at least clearing the entrance so they can get in.

He'd been so preoccupied with participating in the riot that he hadn't paid any attention to the possibility of casualties. Even so, while Lloyd tries to clear away the rubble, the spear-toting boy glances back in the direction his quarry had fled to find them gone. A shame, he was having so much fun. Well, if he's got nothing better to do...

Wedging the point of his spear between the rocks for leverage, Nezha pries some of the rubble away to assist in the excavation.

Between Nezha's spear and Lloyd's persistence, it doesn't take long to dig a path clear to get inside of the building. Lloyd doesn't waste any time (or caution) in sliding in as soon as he can, covering his mouth and nose with the crook of his arm to keep from breathing in too much dust.

"Come on," he urges Nezha. "There's at least two people in there." And he doesn't know how bad the damage is inside. He may still need Nezha's help.

Where Lloyd tucks his nose in his arm, Nezha pulls his scarf up over his face. This guy is so passionate about complete strangers that it somewhat perplexes the firebender, who's really only going along with him at this point for lack of enemies to fight (read: for lack of anything better to do). And so he trots along behind Lloyd at a far more leisurely pace completely unbefitting the urgency of the situation.

It doesn't help that the damage inside is considerably worse than expected with the collapse. Still maneuverable, but the structural integrity of the rest of the building has been severely compromised.

"This won't work, you know."

"What won't?" Lloyd's not about to let a few fallen support beams or piles of rubble stop him. Not when people's lives are at stake. He squeezes himself around one of the broken beams, squinting a frown in Nezha's direction. He doesn't get what the other's referring to, but doesn't like even the general idea of giving up before they've even tried.

Nezha wordlessly gestures to their surroundings as a whole, which honestly look like they're ready to collapse on top of them at any given moment. His own firebending is useless in this situation, and from the looks of it, the guy who'd roped him into helping is no earthbender, which really would have come in handy.

Regardless, Nezha followed him through the falling building, now more out of curiosity as to what the older teen planned to do and more importantly, why he felt the need to risk his own life for complete strangers like this.
redcladidealist: (Eh?)

[personal profile] redcladidealist 2014-12-01 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
The gesture earns Nezha an odd look from Lloyd. "I don't get it." In his mind, the crumbling building is the half the reason they're there in the first place. That, and the whimpers he can hear echoing softly from somewhere just up ahead.

Thankfully, the next stretch of hallway is a little bit more intact. Lloyd pokes his head into a doorway, but the room is too dark to see.

"Hello-" He breaks off with a cough, then quickly covers his mouth and nose again. "-is anyone in there?"

No response. Maybe the room's just empty - or maybe not. Damn it, if only he'd brought a light!

And a light he shall get.

Nezha spins the polearm around his body, and as he does so, the spearhead bursts into flame, illuminating the area like a big metal torch. Sure, he could have simply held a flame in his hand instead, but where was the fun in that? At least now they could see some movement in the far corner, behind a fallen cabinet.

"Over there."
redcladidealist: (Oh geeze)

Lloyd starts in surprise at the sudden source of light, but a moment of gaping is all he can afford before he jerks his attention back to the room. Magic - even the unfamiliar magic of this world - is something he's at least moderately used to, but the kid huddled in a terrified ball in the corner is much more immediate. Lloyd immediately starts forward.

"Hey, are you alright?"

The kid sobs in response staring at them with wide, teary eyes. She can't be any more than six years old at most. "You... Are you real?"
