[Ah, what a lovely morning! It was a calm and relaxing day, and Yang had a handful of hours before she had to go to work... so, Ruby was taking her time and reading the Republic City Times, hoping that today would be the day she'd finally land herself a job!

After a few minutes of leafing through the paper, however, she felt a sneeze come on. It was going to be fine, she thought to herself, knowing all too well she finally got to the point where she was able to control her airbending enough to know not to send her or any nearby objects flying when she let it go.

But, when she did... she had another problem on her hands. One that was, well, on fire, for one.]

H-WHAT?! [There are flames everywhere! How did she catch her newspaper on fire?!] Oh no! What's going on?! Yang! Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no!!

[Cue the screaming and flailing and overall panicking.]

LATER THAT DAY....

[A. What's this? Little Ruby... actually found herself a job? That's great!

Well, if you like being dressed up in a chickencow suit and dancing around in front of a restaurant in order to hand out flyers.

She sure is working hard for her money. Who knows, if you come at the right time, she might be actually handing out dumpling samples! Most of the time though, she will be doing a variety of various dances in order to grab your attention!]

Hey! Come on down and get our world famous dumplings! The noodles are just divine! [...] Watch me break it down, so you can break your fast~!

[Now she's busting out the big moves. Please stop her before she tries spinning on her head.]

EVEN LATER THAT DAY....

[B. Okay, now there's screaming. And flailing. And things are on fire again.]

Aah! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I don't know what's going on!! Why me?!

[This time, it's a huge stack of flyers that she was assigned to hand out. They're all burning and Ruby's trying hard to put them out, but-- wait. No! That'll catch the suit on fire! That suit costs a month's pay!

Help?]

She tried.

It was a valiant effort to make her own money, but Ruby had been sent home for being "hazardous to her working environment" or whatever. She has an hour or two to kill, so she's making her way to the park and flopping down next to the Korra statue, face in her hands, sighing loudly...]

Why is life so hard? I might as well have caused an explosion...

[Oh, no. She's SAD. Cheer the young girl up, maybe?]

[DON'T PANIC DON'T PANIC he is really trying not to panic, but the fact that she's freaking out is making him freak out and why isn't he a waterbender! This would make things so much easier!]

Okay, just... stay calm! Everything's going to be fine! Uh...

[He rips off the vest he's wearing over his shirt and holds it out in front of him. Smother the flames, right? That's how you put out a fire?

There's no way to go about this that isn't weird, so he just sort of... goes for it. He lunges forward and throws his vest (and himself) at the flaming udders to pat the flames out.]

[HER UDDERS.

This was an udder mess, that was for sure. Ruby's still panicking and flailing, but Jaune's quick thinking and his smothering the flames seems to be working! Oh, good. What's left of the udders are singed and smoking, leaving blacked protrusions that were once teats.

Well, it was a smoking mess, but it was out. The flyers on the floor burn out quickly, and Ruby just... sinks to the ground, defeated.]

...Holy smokes.

[The good news is that the fire's out! And he got to play the hero for a brief moment. For once it wasn't someone else saving him. A major plus! The bad news is now what does he do?

He watches her crumple to the ground as a sad, defeated chickencow that almost became dinner and frowns. It's not exactly the response he thought he'd get for saving someone's life.]

Aaaaaare you gonna be okay? You're not burned or anything, are you? I mean, YOU you, not the chickencow you.

[She only smiles wider when Blake does, feeling a million times better already. As much as she seems pretty solitary, Ruby knows for a fact she could call her a friend.]

I hope I can come back... after this all blows over. I can make up for it, I promise!

[Ruby proceeds to shove her hoofwings in her face, sighing loudly, embarrassed as ever!]

I-- I guess. I don't know what happening to me. I didn't know I could firebend... And now it's just going off for no reason!

[That's a head-scratcher, all right. In fact, Jaune actually scratches his head at that. Sudden firebending isn't something he knew was possible.]

Maybe you're just a late bloomer? And I totally mean that in a strictly bending sense, just so we're clear.

That's what my sister said! I mean, she's one, and everyone else in my family mostly is, and... [She's biting her lip.] I thought I was an airbender! That's why we came here, and--

[Oh. Looking up, she's catching who this actually was.]

You know, I had actually forgotten about that boat ride until just now. I was kind of hoping everyone else had, too.

[She smiles a little, trying to get up in the mass of fluff and feathers.]

I'd call you Vomit Boy, but... I really don't have much room to talk.

[He's quick to extend a hand to her and help her up.]

If you promise never to mention it again, I promise never to mention you almost being barbecued ever again.

[And she takes it, huffing loudly!]

Good. [He clears his throat.] Why hello, miss. It is very nice to meet you just now.

[Bolin happens to be around when a stack of fliers suddenly burst into flames. He may not be a firebender, but he's been around his brother enough to know how he can help.]

Hold on! I'm coming!

[He starts running down the street towards the flames, against the flow as so many are running away. As he approaches, he jumps and slams a fist into the ground, which causes a small rumble through the pavement. Eventually a small pyramid of earth forms over the fliers, hopefully suffocating the flame out with the lack of fresh air.]

[ Hopefully she doesn't mind Jin watching her little performance with a goofy grin on her face. Look she couldn't help but stare a little okay? She heard a big commotion and had to check it out. ]

[It's okay. She wants you to stare. That makes people see the restuarant and want to eat food and then give Yang all sorts of tips and that means money! That also means that they can afford to eat there too, but alas.

She's in the middle of doing some sort of a funky backwards walk, when she hears the compliment.]

[Out of all the bending, earth was the one element she had the least experience with. Firebenders were everywhere back home (thanks, Fire Nation), waterbenders were in droves since they had lived on an island, and air... well, she was all about that element, oddluy enough. But earthbenders were few and far between back home, so when she sees that huge lump of earth come her way and stop that fire? She's amazed!]

Who caused an explosion?

[Judar had been trying to climb the statue for a higher vantage point, but "explosion" is one of his favorite words, so he drops back down to the base and walks over to Ruby. After all, one-sided conversations aren't any fun and he's always available to stick his nose into other people's business.]

[ Jin smiled and happily waved to Ruby. She didn't even realize it was her friend until she turned around. She quickly moved closer and gave her big mascotted friend a hug. ]

You look like the cutest Chickencow I've ever seen.

Thanks! It's my first real job here, so I don't really mind the suit...

[ Ruby was right, her own bending might be gone but she could worry about that later. Before she let Ruby leave the house she needed to know how to control her bending... If only she could have started with a spark like normal new benders do!

For now she abandons her bucket in order to (tentatively) step closer to herself. ]

Okay, so your bending comes from here. [ She pokes her sister in the area between her diaphragm and her stomach. ] It's warm like a batch of freshly made cookies.

[ Already her own anger is reeling in at the situation, but what a bummer to not be able to feel the fire within herself right now... She takes a deep breath, demonstrating to Ruby how it's done by placing her hands in fists before her chest, knuckles touching each other. ] You just... kind of bring it down.

[ Taking another breath, show lowers her hand until it reaches her stomach. ] And you'll still feel it within you, but it's not as warm. It's just enough. Never let it bigger than a little candle, got it?

[ Yang spoke from experience, as someone who let her own bending get out of control more times than she would like to admit. When she got angry, the flame took over her whole body until she couldn't see anything but red. ]

[She's perking up! Ruby may be a little bummed out, but that certainly isn't going to stop her from talking to strangers!]
