And the winner is...

A pile of newspapers was ready to be distributed the moment the results were in. There is, as is most likely expected, a problem with that. Some of the newspaper headlines reads as the following:

And the winner is... Avatar Korra!

What a surprise! Against all the odds, Avatar Korra has won the election! Some are angrily crying out, “What were our citizens thinking?!” Others wonder if all of the votes were from legal citizens.

Right now, Avatar Korra’s approval rating looks like the profit line of a company that just went out of business. Will this do anything to help?
Does our Avatar know what she’s getting into? Time will only tell!

Avatar Korra may have a poor track record for pleasing citizens, but do keep in mind that it was thanks to her that our city is standing at all, if a bit more viney.

Blame the poor newspaper delivery person who grabbed the wrong stack. Oops! The real results are as follows and are documented here:

And the winner is... Lord Zuko!

The winner of Republic City’s election for temporary leader is none other than Lord Zuko, former Fire Lord and father to the current leader of the Fire Nation, Fire Lord Izumi. Those who are familiar with Republic City history will know that Lord Zuko, along with Avatar Aang, were the co-founders of our glorious city. Lord Zuko has since retired from politics, but as the city has clearly decided that they want him to rule in President Raiko’s absence, perhaps he will reconsider and take up the mantel of leader for us once again. It will be a stressful job, especially when no one has been able to contact anyone on the other side of the barrier. Will Lord Zuko lead us well?

In both cases, the newspapers have a missing persons section:

As you may remember, there were posters all around town during voting. Many of them had long list of cons with a few pros thrown in. Someone has been going around altering the posters with the 'pros and cons' of allowing the people who were pulled in Via the Spirit World to stay in Republic City. Specifically the parts about 'eating its residents' food' and 'stealing jobs.'

Those points are now 'crossed out' and instead the following are scrawled in above, below, or to the side (depending on how fast the person making the graffiti changes had to write and then run):

-There were already plenty of people going hungry in this city before anyone was dragged here by the Spirit World - and that group isn't more than twenty or thirty. If you're going to pretend to be concerned about a lack of food, look at the hundreds who already starve when no one should have to. It's not the newcomer's fault when that's been happening for years.

-A handful of people who don't number more than twenty or thirty can't steal jobs.

-Stop looking for a scape-koalagoat for the problems you already had and didn't care about enough to do anything about before now.

[ Feel free to protest, celebrate, or ignore the results. Either way, Lord Zuko will be able to make suggestions. Whether or not characters follow what he suggests is up to you. Will your characters be cooperative or try to rebel? ]
