His stomach lurched in that way that told him the ground was coming up fast. While the rest of Bumi's mind laughed at gravity, there was one tiny little traitorous voice that squeaked, This might not have been the best plan.

As per usual the little bastard arrived after the event horizon had already been crossed.

He shouldn't have followed the DragonFly Rabbit spirit when it was clear BumJu wanted to be left alone. It's just...Bumi had spent so long making the blasted sweater, and he just wanted to see his little blue friend wear it just once for a picture.
Just once! That really wasn't so much to ask, was it?

So when BumJu went down to the cliff, Bumi followed.
And when he flew towards the tree, Bumi followed.
And when he went out just past the reaches of a bough that hardly would have held him when he survived on three square K rations a day, let alone after six months of culinary indulgences...

Well, let's just say that of all Bumi's Sins, being adept recognizing the connection between Cause and Effect was never his strongest suit.

The bough begins to give way. Bumi's eyes go wide. His hands begin to slip.
BumJu, for his part, attempts to save the now retired Commander by grabbing at the collar of his United Forces coat...but to no avail.

Bumi is falling, and he knows exactly how much this is going to hurt. He squeezes his eyes shut and puts his arms out in front of himself to break his fall...

Something shifts. Something changes.
When he opes his eyes again he...he's....rutting badgermoles, he's AIRBENDING.
Then the world goes black as he faceplants into the ground.

Soon enough he's back on his feet, running towards the main plaza screaming for all the world to hear.

"Tezin! Pema! You won't believe what just happened!!!!!"
